OH still has some residual itchy patches on shins (off pred for over a year) and we're wondering if anyone has any comments re these creams - Doublebase, Diprobase or Cetraben

I've only used Doublebase out of the 3 creams you've mentioned but although I know it works really well for some people, I found it a little greasy and it never really felt like it had absorbed properly into my skin. That's just my own personal feeling and doesn't in any way suggest that it's not a very effective product for others.

I like Dermal500...it can be used both as a soap substitute and a moisturiser and worked very well for me when I experienced a very bad case of Urticaria with itchy, angry hives all over my body. It soothed the itching rather than causing further itching after it had been applied.

I still use Dermal500 as my soap in the bath or shower and now moisturise with CeraVe cream. A lovely gentle cream that nourishes, moisturises and protects the skin.

All the creams you've mentioned appear to work well at moisturising and protecting the skin so maybe take a look at the cost.

Sorry I can't help more but I'm sure there'll be others along too to advise you further.

Loads of people on the forums swear by Doublebase and Diprobase - sometimes if you are lucky you can get the GP to prescribe it. Not familiar with Cetraben

It's important to use these products properly - after a shower while your skin is still damp.

I am prescribed Cetraben. I find it pretty good.

Are the itchy patches caused by the pred?

I use BP Aqueous Cream as used in hospitals for leg massage etc. It is cheap but very effective. Best wishes.

I ditto Kendrew's comments. I also use Dermol 500 in the shower and Double base gel afterwards. Happy with both.

I'm not familiar with the products mentioned and I'm in the US. I've had eczema on my shins that responded very well to urea cream. It was expensive and prescription. Now, I have extremely dry lower legs from some degree of venous stasis. So, my skin gets flaky even after a shower. The dermatology nurse practitioner recommended Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream which has urea in it. It works well.
