Operation booked

We’ll my husband has finally been given a date to have a vp shunt fitted on the 30th August. He has been waiting ages for this but obviously due to the nature of the op we are both very nervous. He is extremely wobbly now and it has been life changing so hopefully it all goes well and he will be more mobile and not do foggy brained.

shall I carry on do a reduction from 5 to 4.5 and see how I feel it stay on 5 till the op is gone? Decisions decisions!

Stay on 5mg -you’ll be stressed enough without trying to deal with tapering..,and maybe give yourself time afterwards as well.

Fingers crossed for hubby….hope for successful outcome.

I am so glad he has got a date. It is a very safe form of surgery and he should be able to get back to his old self. Good luck.

I agree, but I am sure everything will go well.

I wouldn't be reducing - in fact I'd not rule out adding a bit!!!! The stress associated with spouses being ill can be overwhelming.

All the very very best - not too long now xxxx

Good news! A stressful time though for you both so no I wouldn’t reduce. You need to be strong at this time to help and support. Will pray all will go well. It’s so understandable that you are both nervous but try to relax as that will help you too- this is a massive thing for you two but a normal procedure for them. All the very best xx💐

Well good to hear it’s all happening and do hope the op goes well. 💕

I wouldn’t continue reducing until much after the operation either. In fact you might need a little extra. Best wishes to you both. 🌺

Good luck both of you. My mother had a VP shunt when she was 84 years old. She had an amazing recovery, getting back the past ten years of her life. Her local GP (we live in Australia) passed off her symptoms (wet, whacky & wobbly) as dementia and old age. Our family were not happy with that diagnosis and pushed for more tests.

You were very lucky to have NPH discovered, it is usually missed by most doctors.

Thank you so much that has made a huge difference to my mood. They only found it because he’d had a scan for an ear problem x
