Cataract operation after effects

Hello everyone, it’s been a long time since l last posted, mainly due to my “new job” as carer to my OH who has developed senility problems, and is very demanding!! However, enough of that, a bit about me, l am almost 78, have had GCA for 4 plus years and after 2 flares am happily down to 6 mgs, been reducing very slowly and feel fine On Sunday l had a cataract operation and all went well and yesterday felt great. Today is a different story, am absolutely whacked, unsteady on my feet, my head is buzzing and my eye feels very strange with lots of flickering. My question is has anyone else had these side effects after a minor op, is it the adrenals kicking off, should l increase the steroids for a while?? I really just feel awful. Thank you all.

Have you checked with the surgical team about the eye effects?

I'd say otherwise it is just delayed reaction and lack of adrenal support and you probably would benefit from a bit more pred. No doubt you are still doing all your caring duties as well as recovering!

Thank you PMRpro, the hospital checked in with me yesterday and l was ok then, it’s just today l have started to feel very fatigued , weak and wobbly. I think you are right and it’s delayed reaction. Will see how l feel tomorrow and take action if there’s no improvement. My OH doesn’t understand why l’m not doing my usual duties today, unfortunately, but he will just have to be patient until l’m back on form again !! Thanks once again

Agree delayed reaction -and do be a bit careful about bending etc..as you say OH doesn’t understand so that makes it more difficult for you.

Will definitely be careful about bending. Didn’t realise there were so many do’s and dont’s following the op, especially no gardening for 6 weeks,!! That’s my one pleasure and helps keep me sane at the moment. But, my sight is more important isn’t it, the weeds will just have to wait.Thank you again

Thank you Dorset Lady, it’s probably delayed reaction. Will see how l feel tomorrow and will contact the hospital and see what they say. I had a routine call from them yesterday and l was feeling fine then .I must admit l wasn’t expecting to be feeling like this after such a minor op. I’m obviously not as fit as l thought l was !Thank you once again
