bruises without bumps

dear fellow PMRs

I am very conscious that the smallest knocks cause us to bruise and just this morning I noticed a new addition to my leg patchwork - do you know why? Can it be avoided or better still removed?

Just leave it, it will go on its own. But do try and keep it covered with lightweight summer trousers. ..and so long as the skin isn’t broken maybe use an emollient cream on it gently.

Looks worse than it probably is -and there’s not much “padding” on that part of shin.

Obviously if it gets worse maybe try and see nurse at surgery (I know that may not be easy!) - or walk in clinic?

Woh - that’s a pic of my left leg! I bruised it - skin was broken - on a flowerpot about six months ago. It took weeks to heal and has never completely disappeared tho it’s faded. I guess it’ll go in the end - another six months maybe? I do rub gd skin cream in when I remember but don't worry abt it. At this stage of my life, legs, like upper arms, are not to be seen in public anyway! 😉

My legs are a worse mess than your picture. The raised purple ones go but as you say they leave faded but very dark patches. Two years on my worse ones are still there. They do sometimes just appear without any remembered knocks. They don’t hurt though, just look very unsightly .

I’m sure Piglette won’t mind my saying she has the same problem.

It’s bad enough accruing all the ageing stuff without the added steroid damage isn’t it 😂

Currently on 5mg

The dark pigmentation is damage from 2 years ago when I was probably on 7mg.

We could form a parallel pigment group 🤬

That’s my forearms and elbows 😒. I’m on 5mg. Had thought it would get better at lower dose, but it hasn’t. 🤗

I have only been on steroids for 4 months but already I find I bruise far easier - cuts bleed more and my skin seems thinner, coupled with a menopause I guess that along with my hair, my skin is getting thinner - the only parts of me that are!

And how come the hair always grows on the wrong places 🤨

I read that someone said - ‘But, hey my earrings still fit’ 😉Made me laugh 😂

Even my FEET are bigger - due to my arches giving in under the strain!!! Oh well, ageing is better than the alternative!

We’ve got to hang in there as you say it’s better than the alternative 😉

I’m afraid it goes with the territory! I’m just thankful that the skin isn’t torn and always have steristrips to hand.🥴

I do dread the skin tearing I must admit😒

Do you not find the strips cause a little bit of damage when you take them off ?

Hirwaen profile image

The best thing to do is make sure all edges are as close as possible then steristrip and easy remove gentle plaster. Leave for 5 days the soak off with warm water. I have forearms covered in cuts and this works every time!

Thank you. I never thought about soaking them off. It makes sense.
