Have you spoken to the doctor? It does sound as if your family picked up norovirus - spreads like wildfire - but it shouldn't last long and if the symptoms are persistent so that you risk becoming dehydrated you may need medical advice. Careful with the Immodium - it can cause problems in the other direction!

Imodium problem?

It can cause constipation if used too much - and that can cause problems as much as the runs.

Thanks so much it’s what to eat. Gp said eat bland little bits what’s bland! I know what I can’t eat. They gonna do a couple tests. I might try homeopathic stuff

Bland means nothing spicy or 'hot', seasoned, oily or fatty. I try and stick to plain foods such as toast (no butter initially) plain biscuits like Rich Tea, mash potato, plain chicken, white fish.

Fats, oils, spices etc can aggravate the stomach further and induce more vomiting. I also know that cold stewed apple is very good for an upset tummy. Stewing apples can release more of the pectin which is known to ease sickness and diarrhoea and help settle things again.

I gave some links for suggestions the first time you posted.

Bananas are also good for diarrhoea. Hope you feel better soon. Don’t forget plenty of fluids. Boring but does make a difference. Hope you feel better soon.

My thoughts would be 24 hours of no food and just water to drink. Then a few days of very bland food (as Kendrew suggests). If no better then back to docs.

Absolutely!

BCol is right.....if you're still being sick or experiencing diarrhoea you need to start with plain water and when you can tolerate that and keep it down then perhaps try small amounts of dry toast. If you're ok with that then try some plain chicken. The stewed apple can be tried as soon as you can keep water down.

My father (a doctor) has a theory that if you have stomach/norovirus type problems you should start eating again with “white” food eg white fish, mashed potatoes, you can then go on to yellow food!! It may be rubbish, but sounds credible to me.

Im really sorry you’re unwell with this horrid bug.

I’ve found Dioralyte Rehydration sachets very good. They come in lemon and blackcurrant flavours. Keeping hydrated is very important and take probiotic capsules as well for the gut.

Piglette’s advice is very good on what to eat when unwell with this bug.

Take Care Uglow. 🌸

I had it recently as did my son’s family of 6! Couldn’t eat for two days…just drank stirred up ginger ale and water. When I did start to eat it was bananas, scrambled eggs, avocado and plain mashed potato (no skin). I feel for you…the symptoms are miserable. Hope it passes soon.

Many years ago (late 1950’s) we moved to Malta and I got “Malta Dog”. The remedy was to boil some white rice and then drink the cooking water. Sounds disgusting but it does work.
