Question regarding dexamethasone eye drops

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well, or as much as you can be.

I wonder if someone can help me, I’ve just had cataract surgery last Thursday, all is well but I’m just wondering if dexamethasone eye drops 6 x daily for 2 weeks and then 4 x daily for another 4 weeks will affect my prednisolone intake, I’m taking 5mg and having headaches, I’m due to see the rheumatologist next week, I’m not sure if the headaches are due to the other eye needing to be done or if it’s GCA, I was having headaches before the surgery , this is why I’m seeing the rheumatologist .

Will the eye drops up my intake of steroid ?

Many thanks

Shouldn't do although you do absorb a bit from the eyes. Lots on the forum who've had cataract surgery and steroid drops post op. The headache is most likely the unbalanced eyes - are you on the waiting list for the other to be done?

Hi, Yes but I had the headaches before the surgery, hence that’s why I’m seeing rheumatologist .

I have been told I’d have difficulty vision wise as I need the other eye done ASAP, balance and so on, really confusing for my brain at the moment 🧐

You're on 5mg? Could be as simple as poor adrenal function - that can cause headaches

Very interesting, never thought of that.

Hi 2013mayo 😊

Just popping in to sympathise really. My eyes were horribly unbalanced following the first cataract surgery in January, to the extent that I got a lot of double vision. I had the second one done a couple of weeks ago and am pleased to report that things are now much better. Am even getting fewer headaches 😊

Hang on in there and all the best to you xx

Thank you so much for your help, it really is reassuring to know I’m not the only one going through this bizarre experience, I hope they do my other eye soon.X

Despite being listed as urgent for my second cataract op it was nearly 6 mths between them and a lot of headaches. I was very shortsighted but had begun to be able to read close to without specs. That changed of course. When I understood my brain needed a lot of adjustment it helped! I was not aware the steroid eye drops made any difference to the rest of me.

Hi, Wow, I hope I don’t have to wait that long.

I’m really suffering with loss of balance and headaches.

Is your eyesight good now?

Xx
