Can Steroid eye drops have an effect?

Had my second cataract operation 2 weeks ago and the after care is steroid eye drops 4 times a day for 4 weeks. After I put them in I can taste it in my throat after a while - so obviously goes down into my stomach I suppose.

At the moment currently slow tapering from 9 to 8.5 but feeling quite tired, so trying not to do too much.

Anyone know if the steroid eye drops can effect my tapering?

Hi Maudie the dose of steroid in the eye drops is too small to have any effect on your system. It won’t interfere with your tapering, the tiredness is natural after having the op.

I would not be tapering at all until you are over the cataract op and then have your new spectacles etc. Your body has enough to cope with at present.

Thank you. Hadn't thought of that and a looming granddaughters wedding in June 600 miles away! And a husband with early Altzheimers going with me I think you have a valid point. My hamster face is driving round the bend, keep thinking of the wedding photos! So like everyone keen to get down from whatever we are on! But need to be on top form for the next two months!

So stay where you are for the next 3 months (last one to get over everything then start again). Have a lovely time at the wedding.

Agree with jinasc -no reductions until after wedding

Aw bless you, I can identify with the hamster face, I’m already stressing about my daughters wedding in Cyprus next July! Hope you have a brilliant time x

I feel the photos are not going to show the real me. Wedding photos can been seen by future generations.

You won't look anything like as bad as me on my daughter's piccies! It was about 4 weeks after my worst status on Medrol. I'd just started to lose a bit around the waist - enough for the spare trousers I'd taken to fall down! - but the new outfit I'd bought was rather large and I'm a whole 5'1" on a very tall day. By the time I'd lost the weight I had gained, my neighbour took about 5inches out of the waist! In Cyprus you get away with a nice floaty dress - ours was at a church on a cliff top near Whitby at the end of September ...

I have bought two sizes of trousers - just in case I suddenly put on more inches! I was a tall 5 foot 3 but more your size I think now. I'm going to be 600 miles away from home - so have to take things - just in case! Hope you enjoyed the wedding despite all your problems.

Oh yes - I was a long way from home too, I live in Italy! I had got new trousers the previous xmas because I had gained weight and then gained more. So it never occured to me the spare smart black ones would be useless!

It shouldn't do - the amount absorbed really is minimal. You taste them in your throat because the eye drains to a sac at the top of your nose

Hello, I had cataract surgery in both eyes last year, and the drops did not seem to affect my tapering, though I was using (and still am) one of the very slow tapers. Im down to 2.5mg now, and going to try for 2mg over the next month. Good luck to you, the surgery has been so beneficial for me, and I hope you will feel the same when it has all healed.
