Thank you to everyone who replied to my inquiry about Knee surgery & pred. Nurse at Orthopedic office told me I would have to stop Pred. before surgery. I told her I could not suddenly stop pred, due to adrenal insufficiency that it would cause. It is frightening when medical personnel do not know that you can't stop Pred. without tapering.

Knee Surgery
Rubbish …hope you told her so.,There are many on here who have had operations whilst still on Pred.
My surgeon told me he wanted me on zero pred before my hip op. In the end we negotiated a dose we were both happy with. I guarantee the nurse knows nothing about long term steroids. It was just easier to say stop.
Honestly - you despair don't you. You do NOT have to stop pred - in fact, you will be given extra during the op. Hope you told her boss?
It's sad really that nothing to do with comments, opinions, and orders from the the medical world shocks us any more.....some things so dangerous....Years ago my MIL who thought Dr's were gods would have believe every word they said.....thank goodness we challenge or contact somewhere like this forum to make a decision......
Eek!
I don’t know if there is something unique about knee and hip replacement but I seem to have heard this a lot lately. I had successful shoulder and back surgery with a pred boost to help my body cope. Usually, you have a pre op with the anaesthesiologist. This was when I mentioned it and he ordered it.
Totally agree with all the comments I was on preds when I had a breast cancer op. No problem. The anaesthetist was perfectly happy with me taking the drugSpeak to the anaesthetist
Good luck
