Colonoscopy

I am having a colonoscopy next week at 2 o’clock so won’t be able to eat that day. Should I take my 13.5 Prednisolone without food or wait till I get home? I haven’t received the information pack from the hospital yet so not sure of the details.

Most endoscopy experts allow you to take medication with a small amount of liquid. A single dose is unlikely to cause trouble. It does also depend a bit on what time you usually take the pred - if it is early morning, waiting until mid afternoon is rather late. Taking at least some of it the night before is maybe an option?

Ask the doctor. Mine wanted me to wait until after the surgery to take that day’s dose and I am only at 3mg.

I just take mine without any food. My surgeon does not have a clue about steroids except he does not like them!

Thank you all for replying, I have to go to the hospital to pick up the meds and info on Monday so will ask someone then.

I have had a colonoscopy. I was on 5mg the time. Take your medicines that you usually take first thing in the morning with a small amount of water but don’t have anything to eat. Don’t take any other tablets you usually take at lunchtime for instance until after the procedure. I hope this helps and the colonoscopy goes well.
