A friend of mine, who like us is immunocompromised from pred use, has just had an antibodies test to see just how effective her vaccinations have been. She has asked me to post here so that you might be informed.
Obviously we are all different and react differently but her result after her booster was considered very high and she would have good resistance to infection. She is reassured and hopes knowing this will reassure others.
Seasons greetings from us both

MEDICINE
The concentration of an antibody, as determined by finding the highest dilution at which it is still able to cause agglutination of the antigen.
To do the tests they take a sample of serum and then serially dilute it so you get 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 .... always doubling the second number. The highest dilution that gets a reaction is the titre - or the weakest solution,. The higher that number, the higher the amount of antibody present.
Hi Scats. Not had any antibody tests but came back from holiday (with friends) two weeks ago to find out that one of my friends tested positive the evening of our return!
Neither myself nor his wife have gone down with it. So the vaccines must be working. I hadn’t even had my booster at that stage.
He is recovered and started back at work Monday. (11 days later)
He was diagnosed with pmr back in spring so I told him about the 3rd primary vaccine mentioned here (he was on 15mg for his 2nd jab). His doctor looked into it and agreed and he got it back in October . Good job too. 🤗
I was tested for Covid antibodies back in July when I was in hospital with my first bout of pneumonia. Sadly I had none then, despite only being on a very low dose of pred, and having had the second of my AZ Covid jabs 3 months prior. I’ve now had a third primary, Pfizer this time, so hoping that might do the trick.
Further to this tho, I forgot to add, almost all my family tested positive for Covid after we returned from a family camping holiday in August- that’s 3 adult kids, two of their partners, two out of three grandchildren….and I remained negative… despite very close contact with all of them in confined spaces…tents and campervan! So who knows what’s going on, maybe the Vitamin D we have to take whilst on pred did have a protective effect?
maybe I'm missing something but what was the result of the antibody test? I had a private one done a few weeks ago as had had bad reaction to both first two vacines and wondered if I needed the booster. Result came back 46/ul when I asked whether this meant I had high antibodies or not the answer came back to say that no-one knew the answer so that was a waste of £100 - now had booster, moderna and no reaction other than sore arm and very tired for a few days.
