Ad-Cal & Thyroxine

I have just been prescibed Ad-Cal which I am supposed to take am and pm. However on the literature it says that if I am taking Thyroxine to leave 4 hours before I take the Ad-Cal. I take all my meds (other than predislone) in the morning so how do others on thyroxine and Ad-Cal manage this dilemma?

See this post - healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk...

But basically take one dose of AdcalD3 lunchtime…. And the second 2hours before or after Pred.

What time do you take Pred?

Between 7.00 & 8.00 pm with dinner

In that case take 2nd dose of AdcalD3 before bed….leaving at least 2hours after Pred.

If Rymer is taking pred at dinner time she should not really take the Adcal D3 at the same time should she?

When do you take your pred? Calcium needs to be away from pred too - so we usually say lunch and tea/dinner for calcium - it is best taken with some food. But as long as the calcium is in 2 separate doses and 2 hours away from pred you will be fine

Some people take their thyroxine at night - a study found it actually works better for many patients

I have been on Throyxine for over 43 years and never thought about the timing of it and as the extra medication has come along over the years I have just added it all together in the morning but I will give it some thought to the timings. Thanks for the link and advice.

How does that relate to your evening dose of pred though?

If I understand this correctly. As long as I leave 2 hours after Pred I can take it at night before bed?

No reason why not - although a bit of food with it helps absorption.

An excuse for a small evening 'snack' then. Thanks for your help as always.

:)The pred I take must be taken within 3 hours of a main meal style dinner - or with what the manufacturers describe as "a substantial snack such as bread, cold meat and cheese" which is a normal Germanic "Abendbrot" (the manufacturers are German obviously)

Not to be a downer but when I took Adcal I got UTIs every 4-6 months. When I stopped they stopped. Now I use D3 spray (w added calcium I think). Just keep this in mind.

Thanks. I will. I am trying to take all this 'pill popping' in my stride but it is difficult when it keeps interupting my working day as I have to set alarms to remind me to take the Pred and Ad-Cal. Its just working it all into a routine I suppose but as my working life is not very 'routine' it gets to be a bit of a pain (forgive the pun)
