I was leafing through a glossy magazine this afternoon and saw this advert for natruflex, a turmeric supplement. I was really disappointed to see the letter on the ad giving the impression that all you need for polymyalgia is a turmeric supplement.

Beware of Turmeric as it reacts to some drugs, google it as I did, and iI can’t have it! X
Before my diagnosis of PMR, my GP was saying Fibromyalgia or MS. I was determined to go natural with herbs, essential oils etc. I started with tumeric capsules and vitamins. The amount of tumeric I was taking was giving me bad acid reflux so i quit taking it. Unfortunately as I have learned tumeric by itself will NOT relieve your pain at least for me. I now just use it in cooking as I love the flavor. You really have to do your research, and as mentioned here you have to make sure you aren't having an interaction with the other drugs you are taking. This thought that if they are "natural" or "herbal" they are safe is a pretty scary thing. Yes less side effects perhaps, but you are still putting something in your body that has not been there before. I do love herbs, essential oils and such, but do my research before for sure.
I have had a reply from the advertising standards people as follows:
<<Having assessed the ad, we concluded that it was likely to have broken advertising rules we apply. We’ve explained your concerns to the advertiser and provided guidance to them on the areas that require attention, together with advice on how to ensure that their advertising complies with the rules.>>
It is nice to be right sometimes!
