Comes up as "Deal of the Day"for me - UK account, live in Italy. I haven't had my email notification for today yet though - just the usual "recommendations" which are always full price (I only EVER buy 99p books), something I already have or something I wouldn't read if you paid me too!

Hi, I bought it earlier today, just searched Michael Mosley and it came up as deal of the day. Hope you find it.

No, but I bought a second hand copy for £3, and I’m happy with that.

Probably more accessible than the Kindle version to tell the truth,

Sadly the site figured out my account is in NZ so only offers a paperback. But you’ve sparked my interest. Is it the original Mosley Fast 800 book you have found so helpful? Is this the 5:2 regime? I gather you’ve found it helpful in dealing with GCA/PMR weight gain? I’ve considered a periodic fasting regime, but how does that work if we need to take prednisone in the morning with food? My husband has been on a daily 17hour fast, delaying breakfast until noon. He’s done really well slimmed down considerably. But I can’t try it until I’m off this drug.

Yes you can - lots of us use intermittent fasting as you can choose the hours you use. I believe that eating fewer than 50 calories doesn't break a fast. So taking pred with a some yoghurt would be fine.

If you choose the 5:2 approach that means 5 days eating normally (but being sensible) and 2 days fasting, but fasting does NOT mean not eating, it means limiting what you eat in some way or other. With 5:2 it was originally 500 calories on 2 days a week, they revised the concept to allow 800 calories on fast days as 500 is a very low amount to manage on. However, with the right sort of menu planning it is very possible - with a degree of discipline. Cookery books like this one are good for those days because you do need to stick to the calories and that requires knowledge a lot of us don't have. Instead of you having to make the calculations, the book has done it for you. And it provides inspiration - always desperately required in this house!

I originally used 5:2 to reset my needs for portion size really - after a few weeks having 2 strictly restricted days a week I found I wanted a lot less on the other days too. Weight loss while on pred is often slow - but rarely impossible. I predominantly eat low carb - I have to say that has gone by the board in the last 6 weeks and I hate to think how much weight I have probably put on but once I have cleared the freezer I won't have an excuse nor will I have to be tempted by shopping for anyone else.

Thank you for all the detailed advice! It sounds like quite a discipline but worth it. I will definitely try. So are you recommending the cookbook with the intro byDr Mosley, or his original book which is titled simply Fast 800? There seem to be several similar titles.

They are all worth a read because that's how to get the full picture. The discipline is the measuring with his approach - no "a handful is near enough" - people end up eating far more than they think. It is the same with low carb - so many people say they are low carbing but not losing weight and all too often it is because of the amount of fruit they are packing away as snacks. Healthy it may be, low carb it isn't.
