I have a back issue that is old fractured vertebrae and I’m in awful pain again with it I shall see Gp Monday but I also have bad left groin pain again and hip feel very emotional. I won’t up prednisone because it might not be pmr. My last bloods were good so I’m just at a loss here.

Any advice please

Can you take painkillers for back and groin pain? If so, then do…it’s not always PMR.

Have you had an x-ray of your hip? Osteo arthritis in the hip can cause groin pain.

Sorry you’re in pain. Understand why it’s getting you down. I have had bad groin pain after I pulled something stepping up and down on a dining chair when decorating - never again! When in bed I found lying with a pillow between my legs helped, also a heat pad or hot water bottle on the most painful area. Painkillers too of course. Hope you get some rest. Maybe you could phone your GP surgery or a pharmacist for advice re medication tomorrow.

The groin pain could be bursitis - which can be associated with PMR but if your back is playing up as well that could possibly be making it worse as it will affect how you walk.

I have very bad back pain this week, but don’t think it’s connected. I have a haemangioma at the base of my spine. I also have sciatica right now & that is giving me bad hip & groin pain, as well as the more normal pain from thigh to toes. I find it gets easy to think it’s all PMR, when, in fact it’s not necessarily related at all!! I’m not upping my Pred again (already upped from 3mg to5mg 3 weeks ago for a different reason). One observation, purely from my own medical history, is that when I have PMR issues it usually affects both sides of my body, like shoulders, for example. However, with my current issues, they are left side only. I’m taking tramadol, paracetamol & Amitryptyline for pain, plus morphine sometimes. It doesn’t always work!! Best thing for a bit of comfort is heat, i find. I have my electric blanket on a low setting all night, & sit like a 100 year old with blanket round from waist down. This doesn’t mean you have sciatica or a haemangioma, purely my personal situation, but my story may help, I hope. You’re not alone! Your GP will help, I’m sure. Mine tells me I’m ‘complex’ as I have other stuff as well, & it’s not easy for him to sort the wheat from the chaff sometimes! Good luck, S x

It drags me down I’m going to try gentle exercises. The pain becomes horrendous I think I’m a wimp every one else seems to cope.

I exercise a lot...but suffer from it afterwards. Worse thing is standing doing cooking or dusting or whatever. I find it better to be moving around!

Hardly a wimp!! Constant pain is very debilitating, with the best intentions in the world, it can drag you down. Hope you get some relief soon.

You're definitely not a wimp, but maybe I am !I ended up in A&E with excruciating groin pain after stepping down awkwardly doing what I shouldn't, suspected fracture turned out to be L2 L3 trapped femoral nerve not helped by arthritic cysts in hip ! So as has been mentioned it could be your back causing a trapped nerve and pain is felt in the hip, strong pain relief wasn't a complete relief but I found heat pads back and hip relieved it even more.

I do hope you get some help and advice soon

as pain can be very draining sending best wishes

Thanks to top car you get to feel like your just whinging but sometimes the pain is so overwhelming I’m fretful of what’s happening. I know it’s easy to put down to pmr but when you are new to it all you just don’t know. I’m taking strong pain relief but unfortunately not really helping. I will speak with Gp and maybe an up to date X-ray can reveal. Thank uou for your reply. Janet

So sorry for all your pain. Six months ago I started having very similar symptoms; left lower back, leg pain and increasing groin pain left side. Saw my GP -X-rays revealed osteoarthritis left hip. Consultation with an orthopedic surgeon followed by an MRI revealed severe deterioration of left hip . I’m scheduled for total left hip replacement December 14. I felt very relieved to find an answer to all the pain I’ve been in. I hope the answer and solution to your pain is discovered soon. X-rays are great but don’t tell the whole story so an MRI might be in order.

If you have an MRI make sure they put a pillow under your knees...I find it makes the pain more bearable ‘in the tunnel’!

The couch is so hard last time my back went into spasm. 😩

Yes, Ive had trouble, too, but it’s a wonderful way for them to see just what’s going on! The last time the machine broke down half way through & I had to go back weeks later & repeat it all!! But they could then clearly see the tumour at the base of my spine & decide what to do, so it’s worth it!
