I am still having so much trouble with groin pain. I did not injure myself or pull any muscles. It just started about a week ago. Low back and hips started getting tight and painful then moved in my thigh and now into my groin. I was on 15mg pred. and went to 20mg. That helped the back and hips but not the groin. I went up another 1 mg today but still no difference.
I was reading that groin pain could be a side effect of pred. I was wondering if others have experienced this? I had this kind of pain 4 years ago when this all started and not been bothered much by it since. ( so that wouldn't have been pred. related)
I have an appt with rheumatology on tues.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

I had that, mine was one sided, didn’t respond to increased pred. It turned out to be osteoarthritis. The pain came on suddenly, apparently it had been masked by the pred up to that point.
I had groin pain due to osteo arthritis in my hip. In the end I had a hip replacement. Thank goodness I had it at the end of last year as it seems I would be lucky to get an op this year as Covid seems to have taken over.
Mine is trochanteric bursitis aggravated by piriformis syndrome. I had thought originally it was OA in the hips but pred solved it nicely after a few months. But the bursitis appears again every so often - and also after the low back pain and thigh pain that marks the piriformis syndrome.
Doesn't seem to match piriformis syndrome but I have had trochanteric bursitis and a steroid shot cleared it right up.Thinking of going to the er. I think if it is bursitis then they will give a steroid shot.
I have an appt with rheumatologist tues. but I think I need an app't with an orthopedic dr.
Hi Linny, I developed groin pain over a 4 month period after almost 5 years of preds plus about18 months of methotrexate for GCA. An xray showed an arthritic hip and I'm on the waiting list for hip replacement surgery. I've been offered it on two occasions recently but have declined stating concerns over the covid situation in our hospital. As hospital situations have become more difficult, I think they're quite relieved that I'm prepared to wait though I hope the infection rates decrease and I won't have to postpone again.
Hopefully your rheumatologist will conduct the necessary tests to determine the cause and prescribe an effective treatment. Do let us know the outcome.
Prednisolone, mainly used in the UK, or prednisone, mainly used in the USA and Europe. Both corticosteroids which are the mainstay of management of the disorders we talk about on this forum: polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and giant cell arteritis (GCA). If we say pred - covers both ...
