My body wants more pred!

I forgot to take my pred yesterday, didn't realise till 7pm, 12 hours late. Took it straight away, and my usual 40mg this morning. However tonight my body wants more! I'm getting symptoms of head throbbing and neck aching. What shall I do please? I have GCA and PMR.

I’m sorry I don’t have an answer for you really although I’m sure many of us must miss doses or take the wrong amount sometimes!

I am concerned that your head is throbbing especially as you have GCA. It may be that someone will come along soon who can reassure you - but if not, I feel you should call 111 if you are in the UK and ask for advice.

And of course if your condition worsens, A&E is the place to go - but I hope you’ll feel better soon.

Hi Broseley, l’m not a GCA Expert, l’ll copy DorsetLady into my reply. You have taken more Pred in the last 24hours than you would have normally had, so l wonder if you have stressed yourself out about forgetting your dose until late on yesterday?

Can you take Paracetamol? Maybe that would help your head & neck?

I hope someone can advise you further before it gets too late but l don’t think extra Pred is the way forward so if you are concerned you need to ring 111 for advice.

Thanks Mrs N. It feels like when I had chronic idiopathic urticaria back in 2007, I used to get the same feelings in my head before I came out in a rash. I was prescribed strong antihistamines. I'm wondering about taking one? It got better on it's own by the way, I was told it was my TCells over reacting.

Hi Broseley 😊As MrsNails has said, maybe a call to 111 would be in order? Your antihistamines were prescribed a long time ago, if I understand you correctly, and may not be useful in the current circumstances.

I’d honestly be happier if you sought medical advice (although obviously I hope it turns out that all is well).

Did you have symptoms before you missed the dose or just since you missed it? Is it the same headache and neck ache as before diagnosis? Have you been doing any extra activity in the last 48 hours? Does paracetamol work? Ideally you should get some advice as already said if your symptoms are like GCA even with extra Pred. However, it is worth considering the questions above in order to help with diagnosis.

Sorry, just coming late into the discussion, but would have advised same as others…no more Pred and contact 111.
