i am down to 2.5 and 3mg. but still have shoulder pain during the night. which is the best advise, go back uo to 4.5 mg, or take pain killers. i dont have much pain through the day. i bit scared of uping the pred as i have been on it 6 years

Does it feel like your old PMR pain? If not it could be bursitis, or myofascial pain. Have you had any imaging to help diagnose the source. I’m dealing with shoulder issues. My Rheumy examined me and says she’ll give me a shot of cortisone. My should hurts when it move it in certain ways buy I have full range of motion otherwise. I find Tylenol quite helpful which makes me think less in terms of PMR and more in terms of bursitis or rotator cuff or myofascial.

What painkillers have you tried? Do they work for you?

I have no fear of upping the pred if I need it - and I've been on it for over 9 years!

A lot depends on whether pain-killers work - they rarely do much for PMR pain. And if you need them regularly then a bit more pred probably has fewer side effects.

First paragraph! I was just thinking, and dismissing the idea, of taking an extra 2mg. Lousy, foggy, cold weather here and I’m in pain all over (the fog’s got into my system)!!

Then I read your post and thought “if E can do it so can I”.😂

If painkillers ease this, it may well not be your primary PMR and could do with investigation. Perhaps a good physio could help at this stage. I agree we can’t keep popping the Pred., effective though it is.
