BACH FLOWER REMEDIES

I have found that since having PMR, I have an increase in my anxiety levels. I am on Pred (currently 4mg) and don't want to take any other strong medications but wondered if anyone has used and found Bach Flower Remedies useful for anxiety?

I tried it, but it was not of much help to me, I’m afraid.

Morning, l’ve only used Rescue Remedy many years ago on myself and the horse and can’t say I noticed any difference, sorry. However it’s probably a nice thing to try and they aren’t expensive (offer on H&B website and shop atm) I know it’s not what you asked but I’ve started using a diffuser with oils about 30minutes before bedtime and that seems to help me get to sleep (I’ve got one that switches itself off and the oils aren’t cloying)

Also at around 4mg of daily Pred I guess your adrenals might still be quite sluggish? I did go through a phase of being generally on edge all the time and in retrospect I think it probably was my adrenal glands waking up but rather slowly.

Apologies, not any help but I hope things settle, if not then a phone call to the GP might be in order? All good wishes.

It IS a help Maisie, as it is always useful to know what helps others. I'm sure you are right about adrenals and I'l get a synacthen test when I'm about 3mg. It is a tricky time at lower doses although good to be able to reduce slowly.

My eldest daughter is a great fan of Bach rescue remedy. She used to carry it around in her bag. It’s a lovely world and even if it might be a kind of a placebo effect, I think it can be helpful, particularly in the moment. It used to get me through presentations at work. There are lots of them for different aspects of distress, aren’t there?

I tried them in an attempt to reduce work stress a few years ago but wasn't really convinced that they were helping me.

A friend swore by them but when she gave me some to try I can't say it was entirely convincng!!

Op for snapped tendon, took rescue remedy for two weeks before hand then arnica after op.

Surgeon came to see me after op as the plaster people had reported very little bruising. He had heard of arnica and sometimes used it but had never heard of RR. Being open minded, when I saw him around 6 months later (finally back on both feet) He told me he had tried it out on a few of his patients and it had worked for some and not others. He was such an off the wall guy for a medic. He kept me out of a wheelchair for the rest of my life - well until GCA came along and then you came along.........😊

I used arnica when the metalwork was removed from my leg - not a bruise in sight and up and around next day much to the physios amazement. Don't know how - but that worked!

I've always used Arnica for bruising - works a treat. Your medic sounds open minded - unusual.

A bit like a mad professor hair all over the place, pockets filled with stuff and absolutely brilliant.

I am very sceptical about some of these plant remedies. However if it works for you even if it may be the placebo effect that is fine, as long as it does not cost a fortune as some of them do.

Thank you to all of you for your helpful responses. You really can rely on people in this forum - what would we do without it.

I have used them and found them helpful, but as there are 40 or so it’s good to get help to choose the exact right ones for you, otherwise not so effective.

I know this is not what you asked about but I am feeling a bit calmer from taking magnesium before bed. I feel much less stress.

I've made a note of that - thanks.

A friend of mine uses them to help her get off to sleep and swears by them. After all, a good night's sleep is a brilliant start to a new day. I am thinking about trying them myself.

Many of us find the Bach remedies very helpful, others don't derive any benefit. Perhaps it's the known benefit of the 'placebo effect', but my family and many pals have used them with positive benefits for many years - and no side effects.

Many remedies are recommended for anxiety, selection depends on the type of anxiety. One of my relatives found Mimulus (recommended if there is a known cause for the anxiety) helped her through a very worrying time. Have you searched online for The Bach Flower Remedies Repertory. Before PMR/GCA

when I used to walk all over Dartmoor, Rescue Remedy always accompanied me

and worked wonders on bites and stings and on one occasion after the shock of a tumble.

I understand your reluctance to take any other strong medication on top of pred

et al. Hope things improve and I wish you peace of mind each day.

I did not know of the book you mention and have managed to find a copy on-line. Thank you so much for taking time to respond and I feel it is worth while trying the remedies.

I haven't used them since I've been ill, but the Rescue Remedy helped when I was going through a divorce. I think it's a case of 'try it and see'. good luck, keep us posted
