Yes Brexit... Strange to think that we're living in historical times, that the result on Tuesday will be as important as the repeal of the Corn Laws that bored us silly at school... My big deal is that I'm starting two exercise classes and have already done two Slimming World meetings.
I was attempting to make a profound point about how our little daily successes and failures go on against the background of the bigger picture... I really shouldn't try these things!
You go for it matey. Good on you... No corns of mine were very impressed by laws! Think those plasters I used are banned now! They were a lot cheaper!!
Ha. Sometimes I can manage it! Other times well!! Depends on which of my personalities is in residence at the time!! Have a good day Jane. But remember it's not compulsory! Just don't throw anything!!!
First up bloody good luck with the consultant. Second is that a Rose Of Sharon? If so I had a whole back fence smothered in purple variety. Beautiful xxx. Thanks for sharing xxx
Ta. Rose Of Sharron" is a common name for a few different species DC. Heron is right on with this with Hellebore. Here some people call Hypericum ... "Rose of Sharron". (yellow flowers). Also known as St. John's Wort. (taken as an antidepressant). Others call Mallow or Hibiscus by that name! Think yours was one of the latter usually pink/purple/white. It's why they had to come up with botanical names! Changing as they are though now with gene identification rather than flower & description!
Yes we had some of those in my old house. The yellow one was all over our low boundary fence but this purple one was a high very vigorous climber. It was prolific with some flowers appearing year round. Quite coarse foliage with an irritant in the sap causing rash. Somewhat different to the huge blooms of the hibiscus and thicker fleshier foliage xxxxx
Holly I have areas where not enough sun. I got round it by using plastic garden beds on legs which lifted stuff up to the point that the tops of the plants could reach the sun xxxxx
Thanks Pepper for the beautiful picture,l have some carnations in bud and there are primroses which have been flowering for a month ,l expect we are bound to get a really bad spell of cold weather soon and that will spoil things in the garden.Still very few birds around here, the bird food still untouched,l shall have to remove it soon and wait a while before l try again ! I hope that all goes well for you with the heart consultant ,please let us know how it goes .l hope your cold gets better soon and thanks for your lovely flowery pictures ,and your humour too,it really does cheer us up.l am sure whatever happens with Brexit we will all be living our lives without too much difference, but l would not want to be near Westminster if the referendum is overturned !ATB x.
Thanks Grants. Be surprised if we don't get a February frost & snow hit at some time! It does the garden good for a short while! The plants need it & thrive on the rest!
Well done for for the birdie food. Don't know whether you live in a city or other place! Lucky we are on city fringe here & still get a variety of birds. A Spotted Woodpecker yesterday on the seed feeder, rare visit for us. Wonderful. ATB
Like you we are on the edge of a city. I have a green woodpecker that visits. I think he finds ants by the digging he does. We also have a pair of nuthatches that have just started coming and I must not forget our one yellow wagtail. The magpies watch the squirrels with their digging in of nuts and then go and retrieve them. It is entertaining to watch.
Clever the magpies are. Same here! They bury their takings or hide it in the roof tiles. The crows & magpies put on a show of force against the gulls who spot anything put out! Only once have we seen a green woodie visiting. It's great to watch all the coming & going.
My problem is the squirrels they are too clever by half. I have the bird feeder and fat ball hanging on the long washing line. One goes up the prop and along, another
jumps from the hibiscus on to the feeder. I get fed up with them not least because they keep the small birds away. The robin has learnt how to get in the feeder and so has the wagtail but the pair of dunnocks haven't.
Ha. Same set up on the washing line here. The squirrels! not daft are they! Should get another Jack Russell but then he use to chase the ground feeders as well! They have their own order out there & it can drive you nuts trying to change it! Best to watch & enjoy. ATB
The squirrels are so greedy. I had put out for the ground feeders yesterday and then one of them was on the fat ball! No wonder they are fat even at this time of year.
Darling I am thrilled that I managed to grow some carnations from seed!!! If the birds don’t eat the seed I put it on the ground in a plant pot saucer for the foxes or possums. All creatures have to eat don’t they xxxxx
Must be all in our garden Grants- hungry little buggers they are too- blue tits, doves, pigeons blackbirds and robin so far. I buy 14 kg bags of Richard Jackson bird seed - even the mice like it!
My hellebore won't bloom for several months. We are buried in snow but sun is finally shining. Not terrifically cold tho. Lovely photo as usual. Best wishes at Drs next week. I see rhuemy tomorrow only see him a couple times a year so that's good. Just keeps giving me refills
