Pred and gastroscopy

I’m having a gastroscope on Wednesday at 8.30 am. I usually take me Pred with breakfast around 8.30 - 9.00. I’ve been given conflicting advice about when to take it to accommodate the gastroscope. One nurse in that department said to just miss a day (!) . I later spoke to someone else in the department who said to take it the night before. As it’s nil by mouth from midnight my own feeling is to take the Pred (13mgm) with me with a pot of yoghurt and take it after the procedure. As my appointment is 8.30 I suspect I am first on the list. I would be grateful for any advice. Sorry + can’t edit the spelling mistakes!

I think that your plan makes sense but maybe talk to the doctor who is doing the procedure. Missing a dose is a bad idea. It’s either the night before or after the procedure, I think. You may even benefit from a little more because it’s invasive and stressful.

Thank you for your advice. I appreciate it.

You could also split the difference. Half the night before and half after your procedure. However will they be giving you anything for pain control during the procedure? If so, you may be just fine waiting until after to take it.

Thanks for replying. Yes, I should have said that I will be given a light sedative so will probably just stick to my plan of taking the Pred after the procedure, but will also see what the doctor on the day suggests.

Obviously a nurse who has never had PMR and taken steroids! Personally I would take the steroids early as then I would know I would not have to worry about remembering to take them afterwards, particularly as you don’t know when you will be able to. This is my personal choice, not advice.

Thanks for replying. Yes - I was surprised by the “just miss a day” advice!
