What to eat when taking pred before breakfast

Hi a quick question please. We are going away this weekend, staying in a B&B. Breakfast is not till 8.30. I have found I need to take my pred by 7am so I can sleep at night. I'm thinking that if I take a banana to eat at 7am before my pred that will do, but is it enough to eat, or can anyone else suggest something? Thanks.

Fine as long as you aren't doing low carb - loads of carbs in today's ginormous bananas! A yoghurt is also fine or even a glass of milk - especially if you are having a proper meal soon after to soak up any acid.

I’d get a low carb, high protein bar or cookie like Quest. But if you can stand the pain, you can wait until 8:30 and see if it messes with your sleep or not. Depends on your dose etc.

Thanks, no pain but only been on pred for 3 weeks. 40mg. It just stops me sleeping if I leave it too late.

I have a piece of hard cheese as that is easy.

I have had a banana with pred for three and a half years. No problems!

Because you are taking 40mg probably the most important thing to do is swallow the tablets with a good draught of water, say 100 - 150ml and stay upright. No bending over to tie shoe laces or put on socks. This prevents acid reflux and heartburn. Food does provide a good buffer but what people often forget is that eating causes an automatic release of acid as part of the normal digestive process. Drinking water will dilute the stomach acid and reduce it's corrosive action. Not everyone suffers tummy problems with pred. In the early days I was taking 30mg at 2am with no food. I just propped myself up in bed with pillows, fell asleep sitting up and had slid down the bed by morning.

Thanks, I didn't know that for pred, just the allendronic acid. I was planning on going back to bed, which is what I do at weekends. Not had any tummy issues yet.

I have yoghurt which I keep in a cold box in the hotel room or on the window sill if it's a cool night. Some hotels have mini fridges. One hotel kept my yoghurts in a fridge and I collected one before bed each night.

I have a banana and a couple of tablespoonfuls of plain yoghurt before taking my pred, and have no problems at all.
