FDA authorizes additional dose of Coved vaccine for the immunocompromised

Big news story in the US last night.

According to the link in this article the immunocompromised include those on high doses of corticosteroids.

When I last saw my rheumatologist a month ago she said no need for an antibody test. I’m on 13 mg of prednisone and never been lower than 10 for three years. I live with an unvaccinated son who is a conspiracy believer.

Would I qualify for a booster shot?

I'd have thought so - but who knows. Far more use though might be the son thinking of someone besides himself - having a vaccine isn't just about you ...

The beliefs aren’t changeable. I’ve tried. He has PTSD and anxiety disorder from earlier medical treatments and surgeries, and fear of being burned up in a wildfire. Loss of control and fear of losing access to his ostomy supplies. Can’t make a grown man go to therapy. He really has a big heart underneath all the fear.

Fair enough in that case - but just hope he doesn't get it as that won't do his other conditions any good at all.

How is it dealt with in your family? Does it cause stress?

My sister daren’t mention vaccines to her any more. She tried over the years but realised she had lost. My next door neighbour’s daughter is the same and my neighbour is quite distressed about it.

I asked my rheumatologist about the third vaccine and he said he recommends it. I'm on 10mgs of pred after being on 4mg and then flair. I'm scheduling as soon as I can as he recommended.
