I'm down to 3mg prednisolone from starting on 15mg. My question is my skin on legs and arms have got very thin and the least knock I bruse like red blood. Also if I knock myself my skin peals of and I bleed alot. I put a plaster on it but when I took it off my skin came with it. I look a mess on my legs. What does any one else use so not to peel skin. I can't walk around with bandage on my legs .anyone help me.

My legs are in a terrible mess and are bruised or bleeding and scarred. I just wear long skirts and have given up the effort of sorting it out. I also display the mess to friends when we go out to lunch!!

Why can't you walk around with bandages on your legs? Long skirts for ladies and trousers for men and women cover a multitude of sins. I've given up worrying about the bruises on my shins - and I don't think anyone notices them to be honest. I think we are far more aware of such things than onlookers.

There are various types of plasters that are more suitable for delicate skin and dressings that don't adhere to wounds such as Mepilex which can be held in place using Self-fix bandages which stick to themselves and not to skin.

Mepore is a good brand that doesn’t get stuck to skin, have a look on line….or if you have a helpful practice nurse you may be able to get some from her as you are on Pred. Depends how their coffers are!

I am male but share your symptoms and embarrassment.. Low tack dressings from asda help. I wear shin pads under trousers.. Get good protection from knocks.

Hi Denbo sorry to hear about your skin problems. I can sympathies as I have experienced my skin becoming extremely thin but mine predates my diagnosis of PMR and taking prednisone. I have sun sensitive eczema and nodular prurigo which is in remission at the moment thank goodness. My only suggestion are to remove all perfume and go for Dermol, Sudocrem and coconut oil. Hydration and care is key. Use the Dermol instead of soap and use it afterwards to moisturise. Sudocrem is very good on broken skin, there is also a brilliant product called duoderm extra thin you can buy on line or have prescribed by your GP it's a dressing that is brilliant for those knocks. I hope this of some help. If you can take some pictures of your skin I have found over the years that by the time you get to see a doctor it isn't as bad and you end up being fobbed off with a small tube of seriod cream which also thins the skin. Best wish let me know how you get on.

I use cocconut oil to try to 'feed' the paper that used to be skin. I'vecalso found a good sun cream helps condition my skin. Good luck. I've had eczema all my life, and pred skin just weakens it further. Take care
