Hi Bennijax. I'm so sorry to hear of your fall and all the pain you're in as a result. I'll leave it up to others with more knowledge to advise you on the pred, but I just wanted to say that I can imagine that you're probably feeling pretty fed up at the moment, particularly if it seems like you're losing control of your health & well-being again.

This condition is so unpredictable and can change for the simplest of reasons. Having a fall resulting in a broken wrist will certainly have some level of impact on the PMR and may well require your pred dose to be tweaked for a short time.

The possibility of having to increase the pred slightly again may leave you feeling disappointed but it may be necessary and in the long term it will prevent any further issues evolving.

Sometimes it seems like when one thing goes wrong it has a snowball effect, triggering lots of other problems! I imagine the stress may have upset your reflux issue and the anxiety around your injury won't have helped but all these things should be temporary. They will pass and gradually you’ll find you're able to take back the control.

All of us here have experienced setbacks at one time or another, and will continue to do so.....some of them more serious than others.....but the positive thing is that almost without exception, a resolution can be found that either remediates the problem or at the very least, eases it significantly.

You will get through this but it will be a gradual and steady process, requiring a level of patience and acceptance. You have the support of this amazing forum to help you along so try to focus on what you can do to get back to the place you were at rather than what the accident has taken away from you (temporarily!)

I wish you all the best for a satisfactory recovery

I suspect that the nausea and diarrhoea may well be due to poor adrenal function because of the stress of the accident. The Sick Day Rules should apply.

A fall is also enough to trigger a flare of the PMR.

Did you tell the doctors who dealt with the broken arm about being a long term steroid patient?

Yes but I drew blank stares. No one I have been seen by knew much about pmr and it was brushed away. I’m on holiday and not at my home, and it has been been very stressful. I was advised to go back to hospital last evening, and there was checked out very thoroughly in Majors where noting bad was found, the bone is setting correctly according to X-rays, and all that can be done is to take much stronger pain meds which I’ve been resistant to doing. They cipouldntvdo any thing for the indigestion and diarrhea. Now trying to get my car and me back to london by tomorrow and finding home help, all overwhelming. I don’t want to live all on my own any more…….

Get yourself an alarm - a watch or a pendant that you wear and can call for help if anything happens. Some councils supply them, sometimes you go via a private company.

agespace.org/personal-alarm...

explains the concept. You can now get GPS based ones that you can use even away from home - they identify where you are and help is arranged even if you have a problem in the middle of town or on a walk on your own or even in the garden.

All new territory for me. Any British readers on here, maybe someone could recommend one?

The link I gave is for the UK but this is for Which and they include advice about who to contact for information - including local authorities in the UK

Just read about alarms and I will put this on my first list of things to do once I am back home. I was on holiday when I fell, and I’ve had to figure out how to get both me and my car back to London. So far the plan stays in place with a wonderful friend helping to organize it. Heavy rains and flooding in the southwest is hindering travel today, please send me prayers for a smooth trip tomorrow.

I’m on 7mg - what are sick day rules?

There's a Pinned Post on the right of my screen that says "Sick Day Rules". It's all about increasing our pred when our body is under stress.

I'm so sorry to hear about your fall and fracture. I fell a year ago and fractured my humerus, but the difference for me was that my husband was able to help me with daily tasks.

Good news that all is in place with your wrist.

I hope you manage to get home safely and get help and continue to heal well.

So sorry to hear of your accident Bennijax. When I broke my wrist over 10 years ago now, I found simple things (like going to the loo) so difficult with just one hand, then there were the insulin injections - we were still using syringes back then. I needed an op to put scaffolding in, and after that my daughter had to stay over a couple of nights to look after my autistic son. But at least I didn't have the Pmr and GCA to deal with at that time. You must feel like your world is crashing down just now, and no-one wants to have to increase the Pred when you've made it down to 7mgs. To be honest, I've just read the sick day rules myself and realised I should have been doubling my dose for the two months when I had an ongoing UTI with 5 courses of antibiotics. No wonder my ESR was up at 16 just 10 days ago.

All I can say is try to keep focusing on the positives. Your wrist is healing, you'll be back down to your 7 mgs before you know it, and with the precaution of an alarm in place round your neck or wherever, you'll raise that confidence back up again. Lots of luck and hugs coming at you.

👍🍀

I hope so, I’m taking it day by day, but it has dented my self confidence. The shock is only just starting to wear off. My right wrist and arm are taking all the brunt, and I feel suddenly frail. I get it what people suffer with so many attacks on their bodies and minds as we age certainly, and living alone is no longer the ideal
