birthday curse.

2 years ago on my 70th birthday I got a kidney stone which, eventually with hospital visit and medication, passed. Last year on my birthday I was hit by a car on my bike which resulted in cracked ribs and bruises and bumps and...PMR. So this year on my birthday I decided not to leave the house so NOTHING happened to me. But the next day I drove 8 hours to visit family and that afternoon joined in a volleyball game (I know, I know) and tripped over the boundary tape and went running ass over tea kettle and crashed onto the cement twisting my ankle and scraping my hand, elbow and landing on my shoulder. NOTHING BROKE!!! now I am quite achy and sore still after nearly a week.. but I am FINE and.. and here is the point!!! I have osteoporosis. and NOTHING broke!!! thank you tap dancing, walking, Calcium and Vit K2. !! and all of you for good advice for the bones.

Thank goodness you didn't break anything! And it sounds like by not going out on your birthday you were just delaying the inevitable lol. Good for you for even attempting to play volleyball!

Birthdays are OK from now on - as the saying goes “everything happens in threes”.😀

OH I like that!!!

Mikb profile image

That's true! I had three people die on my birthday. And then no more!

What - people or birthdays...

And thanks for reminding me that I was trying to reduce too fast. 4 was horrible. Went back up to 5 and I'm functioning again. Good thing as I have an Australian friend coming to visit me for 3 weeks! Couldn't even start the cleaning on 4 mgs. Today it is almost done and she arrives tomorrow. Staying at 5 for a bit. Thanks for the "gentle" reminder.....

haha. I am ! pretty much.

At least there’s nothing broken , but what an odd coincidence! Birthdays must be banned from now on & you must remain forever 72 🥂

Luddite that I am H. I think emoticons & emoji are! .... Spherical & Round in plural! Give me a break though having had a secondary education!

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to

I liked the original emoticons or whatever they are before there was a major "upgrade". Now I find they really are indecipherable unless enlarged!

in reply toHeronNS

Would agree with that. Over complicated it becomes instead of the bleeding obvious! More bells & whistles are the future it seems!

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to

Sigh. Why did we ever think humans were the crown of creation?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toHeronNS

I have yet to meet an upgrade I thought was a positive. Mind you - since I don't use a smartphone I am rather restricted anyway...

in reply toPMRpro

Same with the keyless car upgrade! The cars are being nicked right from your driveway. What was wrong with a key ? What's wrong with a knob to twiddle on a radio rather than preset volumes that are between the one wanted! (bedside radio too quiet or too loud!) Case rested. I'm going to feed the water fowl.

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to

At least that's productive!

in reply toTelian

Beautiful it was T. Once spotted. Paratrooping Mallards, water running/skimming Coots & shy Moorhens. Only 1 Canada Geese joined the party! The main mob were up on the hill or on the other side of the park eating grass. Must be 80 to 100 of them in total. Make quite a mess but it keeps the grass growing!

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply toPMRpro

We don't even have a mobile let alone a smartphone. Although it might make things easier while we are doing the renos. There must be someone here who doesn't require a person to sign a three year lease for a phone along with a ridiculous monthly bill....

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toHeronNS

You must have pay-as-you-go available - or whatever they call it these days. I have a VERY cheap plain phone and load it once a year with 5 euros of credit to keep the number alive (different countries have different rules)- which I rarely get through! People go to the US and buy a cheap phone like that to use on holiday I gather. Canada must have something like it.

HeronNS in reply toPMRpro

That's what I do when I go to the UK, although I didn't last time because there's no longer a phone store at St Pancras Station which is how we entered last time. Used my tiny tablet to email instead, although the internet connection on the train was spotty and only free for a few minutes. It's really quite astonishing what we can do these days. When I was about eleven I was sent off to summer camp by train instead of being driven as usual with strict instructions to phone home as soon as I was safely at the camp. It was an old phone where you dialed the operator and asked to place a collect call. As they required my name I had to spell it for the the operator. Polish name. The camp leader with me had to leave the room she was laughing so hard as I tried to get the operator to understand the letters I was telling her, because of course they would seem like gibberish if you'd never encountered a name like that! Now you can fiddle with a tiny device and connect with nearly everyone in the whole wide world - provided there's internet or cellphone coverage where you are.

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to

I don't seem to have them on my lap top, not that I've looked..... They are on my new phone bought for my birthday but never think to use them! I can manually do a smile and frown!

in reply toTelian

You do it with language T. It's becoming a lost art of communication!

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to

I think they are useful as a replacement for body language which can alter the way words are interpreted.

in reply toHeronNS

Yes agree that's how it's going. But it's bollocks in real world! Lot's of bollocks about body language too! Finding your own way through always I feel! Just the way I see it now myself about many things.

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to

It is interesting, though. I know myself I have to be careful how I write things in emails because maybe I'm too abrupt, or what I say can be misinterpreted because the recipient doesn't see my wry grin, for example. But I could attach an emoticon ;) or emoji 😀 or perhaps one of those annoying abbreviations (lol) ....

In fact I think it was you who scolded me one day because of the way I said something, because humour didn't come through the words.

in reply toHeronNS

Wow! Scolding! Really!

I didn't know where they were at first, either. I have a touch screen laptop but only use the on screen keyboard for the little pictures. Like this: 😎👨‍⚕️🎃🥗🚑❤💖

Glad to hear you are still in one piece. I have just had a shower and packed my case for a visit to my kids in Scotland and I am exhausted. They have been in Cornwall for a week and have just left there and will pick me and OH up on the way back to Scotland. It's a long way but there are 2 drivers so can have a rest.
