Hello everyone, I am due to have my second AstraZeneca Jab later this afternoon and today is the day I usually take my 20mg weekly dose of Methotrexate after dinner in the evening. I have been wondering if it would be better to skip this weeks dose to give myself the best chance of building an immune response? However, I am also worried as I have been feeling pretty well recently as long as I don’t overdo it and am feeling ready to reduce my prednisolone from 2.5mg per day to 2mg and don’t want to rock the boat! Any advice please?
Very best wishes and thanks for all of your help.

I carried on as ‘Normal’ for my first AZ Jab & had my Injection as usual.
I had my 2nd AZ last week, however l had just been put on an Antibiotic that does intact impact on MTX so l made the decision to not have my Injection, that was a personal decision & was more to do with the Antibiotic as it’s the first time l’ve actually seen an MTX Warning in the Patient Information Leaflet. If l had not been in Antibiotics l would NOT have stopped my MTX - again a Personal Decision.
You can safely stop MTX without any impact on how you feel & it’s approx four weeks before you’d feel any impact at all.....
As far as l know there’s been no official guidance wether to stop MTX or Not.
So, you could ring your Rheumatology Team for Advice they will be the best people to guide you.
If it were me I probably would leave the mtx for a week - but there is disagreement amongst the rheumatologists about it. However, I definitely would not do the next taper step until I'd fully got over the jab itself.
Hi MrsN Spoke to my usual rheumatology nurse who is always very helpful. She was adamant that I should take my methotrexate as usual, so I will! All the best, thanks again for your help.
That’s what l would have done myself if l hadn’t been on these antibiotics which actually have upset my stomach 😣 but hopefully settled the ongoing kidney infection.
I hope you are feeling better soon. Antibiotics give me an upset stomach too but needs must - you need to clear the kidney infection. Take care, sending you a virtual hug 🤗
Hello Mellie22, I was in exactly the same situation as yourself, not sure if i should stop the MXT the week I was having my 2nd AZ vaccine. I phoned my GP and asked for advice and was told I should not stop taking the MXT, but to carry on as normal. I did as advised and have been OK. Hope this will help you feel more assured and best wishes for when you have your second vaccine
Thank you Gardenning,. I have done the same and am feeling a bit sore and achey this morning but not as bad as the first jab. Hope you are feeling ok today. All the best.
