Presently I am 3 yrs with PMR and have tapered to 3.5mg daily for the last year. Today I had my second AZ vaccine. My concern is how much the Prednisolone will prevent the formation of antibodies and how would I find out if I had protection. Any help would be good. Hamish, Edinburgh.

Covid antibodies v Prednisolone

But I think the answer to your question is- nobody really knows.
Morning Hamish, I guess the antibodies test will an indication of whether the antibodies are present, but as to how effective they are/will be will only come to light with longer/long term studies, which no one has had the chance to do yet. I've had both jabs and assume that I will have some protection after another three weeks, but the optimum word is "some" I am not anticipating changing my present life style in the foreseeable future. I'm on 8mg at the moment starting the journey to 7mg (I hope).
I imagine you are in a far better place than I am in terms of dose! I was on 14mg when I had the jabs ad am back to 15mg because of the mild PMR flare it caused. I have no intention of changing the behaviour I have adopted for the last year.
You can get antibody tests done - it is discussed in a post from earliertoday
With such a low dose you are probably as well off as anyone not on pred. We really do not know, as this is a brand new virus. We are slowly learning more about it.
Sorry Hamish, I don't actually know. I've had my second jab and believe it offers a degree of protection but nothing is 100% and its not yet absolutely certain if it cuts transmission either.
