I've just done a rapid antigen test for Covid and it is positive. Some time back when the variant was more serious and the vaccine less effective, I was sent a NHS priority PCR test as I am vulnerable being old and decrepit!!! Should I still use this and is the antiviral medicine that would then entitle me to now necessary? I've tried to find the answer online but failed 😔

I may be wrong but I don't think a PCR test is required now. Call 119 and ask them what applies for you now.
I don't think the current variants are less serious - the difference is that there is a degree of protection due to having had vaccines or Covid in the meantime. 119 will ask questions about your medical history and current medication and decide if you need the antiviral medication,
Do you know, I forgot that, when I tested positive last year. I was denied anti- virals even though I was on 10 mgs as well, I must have let someone know. I was only really unwell for 3 days and went to Australia 10 days later.
I tested positive for Covid on 18/12/2022. I had a call the same day and offered antiviral medication which arrived the same evening. I had no side effects from antiviral, just the awful metallic taste. I felt better after 3 days of taking medication and tested negative on day 7. I didn’t do PCR test but had to check oxygen levels for 14 days. I am currently on 10mg prednisone.
when I had it in July they didn’t want me to have the anti virals unless abs necessary I.e. deteriorating. I was under an extended team who dropped me off a finger pulse oximeter and they rang me daily for my reading and general well being. See how you feel in yourself don’t just go off the positive test but look after yourself xx
Hi, if you are on NHS list of "at risk" patients and you report your positive test result in the usual way they will contact you.
