Twisted ankle

4 years into GCA/PMR on 7mg Pred and Tocilizimab I went over on my ankle and stumbled not fell. Few days later suffering with what feels like Plantar fasciitis and pain in buttock. This has now been about 3 weeks. Anybody got any advice? Is it just pulled muscles/tendons. Just another bit falling apart!!

I have had this problem for a few years and ended up having one ankle fused and the foot on the other side rebuilt ! Don't let that frighten you just remember to let your GP and Consultant know that this can be a reality of frequent stumbles and/or bends of the ankle. This all happened over decades so it sort of crept up on me.

This may not be the same for you but it sure did for me. I was always a bit wild and jogged quite often.

Please take care here.

A twisted ankle can be a swine to heal with problems popping up as the days go by. Do not underestimate “just pulled tendons and muscles”. Were you limping or your gait affected? Usually that happens which causes unusual stress in odd places that start to complain. Important thing is to do proper rehab on that ankle as it’ll just remain weak long after the pain goes. There is plenty online

If it were me I'd assume that the trip and the attempt to save myself had upset the balance of my back muscles and they were protesting loudly - because that is what happens for me. Tripping on a kerb or even catching my head getting into the car can be enough. The buttock pain is because of the piriformis muscle being tightened to protect the surrounding area.

Oh yes, I’ve seen plenty of injuries done on the way down so to speak rather than the main event.

One thing to beware of (and I did this today) is being careful when you're out and about! I stood on a very small tree branch today and it hurt like hell as my foot and ankle were jolted OUCH! C0-C0DAMOL :/
