Swollen inflamed ankle

Woke up this morning with swollen inflamed ankle on the inside of foot. I am presently tapering and at 6mg. Could this be arthritis inflammation and would increasing pred help it. My WBC was up on my last blood test and I am also wondering if this is the problem. My counts have been creeping up but he says reduce 1mg monthly.

Your bloods have been creeping up but he says keep reducing? Where on earth do they park their brains? If they are rising - it is a sign there is increasing inflammation not being dealt with. More pred makes more sense than less.

Why do you assume arthritis? Are you sure it isn't a bite?

I have arthritis in my hands. They are quite deformed so I just assumed it was that. I do not think it is a bite. The only other thought is I was on my bicycle and biking against the wind so it does take extra pressure on the muscles on the bottom of your feet. It is just unusual as it is in the inside of the foot. I took an extra 1mg pred this morning. Maybe not enough to do anything. It is difficult when you are dealing with a Reumy who has no interest in how you feel. I am lucky to have 5 minutes in that office. However, where I live 5ere is no others. Thanks for your input.

Darn good hourly rate one suspects!

As PMRpro says why assume arthritis? I found Pred, apart from when on stupidly high doses did absolute zilch for my arthritis.

..,and ease off the reducing...raised blood markers indicates you need to increase not decrease!

Is it painful, hot - have you done an activity than could account...like driving more than usual...or as said above...got a bite from somewhere?

Yes it is both.

I suspect it could be cycling especially if you changed the shape of the pedalling to produce more power against the wind. I agree it usually the ball of the foot but ankle and Achilles can swell so I presume inside the ankle can. I literally wore trainers on a sideways slope for a minute or two on a walk and my ankle doubled in size on the outside due to tendonitis. Believe me it didn't take much. I adopted the RICE approach and test it as much as I could get away with. It's still swollen and a bit painful to turn my foot. That's at least 2 to ,3 months. But initial resting for a week.

I really appreciate your comments. My frame of mind has been pretty good with this disease for the last year but I feel my emotions are starting to wear down. My life is soooo changed. It always seems to be something.

in reply toRobinsnest72

Yes, I am afraid it feels that way sometimes. The good thing is if you rest, ice, compress and elevate for a day or two and it goes down then you can crack on after a week or so. As they say...one day at a time. 🌻

If it stays hot get Dr to check if infected. Sorry💜

I could still do my routine after first week or so.

Hydrogen Peroxide purifies the blood - our blood has to have clean oxygen otherwise we do get ailments. The doctors are not able to write a script for pure oxygen as it fixes people. I had a bad leg just appeared above my ankle I couldn't bear to touch it went to the doctor and he just looked at me- didn't know. So I went home got out my good old reliable peroxide poured a small amount into the cup of hand rub it lightly all over the sore area as it was very sore to touch - did that 3 times a day if it isn't any better in the week - personally I would be looking for someone that rubs down footballers or a Myo-therapist and go to them as you will be wasting your money as Dr's are not taught how to massage any injury. By the way after the week my leg was as good as new. Haven't had any trouble since - keep my fingers crossed.

Not being stupid but is hydrogen peroxide not what you put in your hair?? How do you get hold of it? Never heard of this before and happy to try anything!

Had JMTS done nothing it would probably have got better as well. I'm sorry - but "Hydrogen Peroxide purifies the blood - our blood has to have clean oxygen otherwise we do get ailments" is just rubbish.

I can not guess what is causing the swelling but if you are able can I suggest taking a photo on your phone or iPad/tablet. I have found that by the time you sometimes see a Doctor the worst of the swelling and redness has gone down.

Yes, good idea, I take photos of everything that pops up 🤣🤣🤣

I usually buy it at the Supermarket as it is cheaper there than the Chemist I swear by it. My mother used it all those years ago it is marvellous for infection especially for infected nails both hands and feet but the secret is you pour a little into the cap of the bottle have an old towel on standby and just poor it on the infected area and you will see it fizz when that happens you know it is working. keep that up for a couple of days I know someone that was in hospital dying after a cancer operation the wound wouldn't heal the hospital was desperate so the good old peroxide came in handy. That gentleman is still alive today. Your leg is a different story so do what I told you for that. Good luck.

I have swollen ankles as well. Just looked down one day and went whoa! It has traveled to my lower legs as well. My Dr. has checked my labs and urine for diabetes because there is such a thing called steroid induced diabetes. Swollen ankles are a sign that shows up, so maybe ask you doctor about that. I am going tomorrow as a matter of fact for another check up on the labs. I don't have diabetes, but I am on the cusp of the worry ratio. I know things are differently here in the states. I am currently on a water pill to help with the water retention and I am hoping he will increase my dose so I can maybe wear something other than flip flops! Swollen ankles, swollen feet and swollen lower legs is making me look a little like pork pig down below the knees!
