EYES REPORT

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post on EYES last week. I have been to the opticians today- Specsavers and no sign of GCA thank goodness but I now have two fully blown cateracts that require an op. He said I didn't have a sign of them on my last visit and it was pretty obvious that the steroids have caused it as they do in some cases. He gave me loads of information to follow regarding protection of eyes from the sun etc. Most of these I do but I had such a good examination of my eyes I felt as if he really understood my problem and worry. He knew so much about PMR and preds and also told me it would be about 3 months before I would get an appointment. I am happy to wait now that I know what was wrong. My husband had both of his done about 3 years ago so I remember the procedure. Thank you all again for your really good advice.

Glad you’ve got a simple (ish) way forward. Yes, my Pred cataracts popped up out of nowhere over a few months and the optician said that can happen with steroids.

Glad you’re feeling more relaxed about things...and well done optometrist.

I was the same as my cataracts ‘ripened’ very quickly although nobody links them to the high dose of prednisolone I’ve been on due to GCA and PMR - although I certainly do. All the best.

That sounds like pretty exemplary treatment. I was not given a package of advice from my fancy Optician or my private Opthalmologist following my diagnosis of cataracts.

Guess I was lucky yesterday but my friend had to pay £35 for a glaucoma test on top of her eye test. Mine was done as part of the examination. Dont know if it was the same but how many tests can they do for that I wonder. Just shows who's about - ones who rip you off and those that seem to do a good job. I really was satisfied with my test that's for sure.

Only people at risk get it free - so a close family member or illness/medication that can increase pressures or already having signs.

So pleased that the way forward is much clearer and will be even more when you have them done! I had mine done about 2 years ago. Unfortunately I can see more dust now😂💐

Yes. I suppose my house won't look too good after having them done but we haven't had visitors for such a long time now I dont think I'll worry about the dust. Glad your vision is good now.
