Not Rhumatoid arthritis, not high calcium level but a hair line fracture!!

Hi all I had a phone call from my rheumatologist this morning. I was told just before Christmas that my hip pain might be due to rheumatoid arthritis, then got a letter to say that my calcium levels were high so I had to stop taking the calcium tablets. I had bloods done this week, and have spoken to my rheumatologist, all my bloods were normal but they had reviewed my MRI and x-rays and found hairline fracture of my hip/femur joint. So I'll be having my left hip replaced so I'll have a matching pair. At least I have some idea of what I am facing, my first one meant instant pain relief.

Exactly. My DIL’s doctor missed a fractured heel 15 years earlier, she’s had so much pain could only limp. Turned out to be full of arthritis by then. Only found when she injured her other foot - so a year in between had each foot pinned in three places (more or less rebuilt) still can only limp.

Thank you for your good wishes I really appreciate your replies. I am not sure if it is responsible for all my symptoms but it explains some of the horrific pain I have been in. Covid jab first, chest x-ray, methotrexate, taper pred, then a bone density scan and then waiting for the orthopedic referral, so might hang around with you all for a bit longer, I didn't ask if PMR was still part of the picture so must do that. It all depends on the joint stability and when surgery is back on the agenda. He didn't say that I was an emergency, I who knows how long I have had the fracture. I was exhausted after the list of things I have to go through, my head was spinning trying to process it all. I do feel some relief to have something concrete that explains the pain I have been in. I want to stick around for a bit longer you have all helped me so much, I was very lost and felt very much alone before read all the info on here.

Just keep coming even if you just need to vent...............and your PMR might still be lurking and the new pain is masking t'others.

Hang around all you wish. All those appointments and waiting for results must have been very stressful. Hopefully you will now be able to rest in mind and body for a while. 💐

Just had my hip re x rayed. Still bone on bone but showing Avascular Nacrosis in the femoral head. Luckily I kept on about how much pain I was in and had got so much worse in the last 3 months. Will now be put up the list thank goodness.
