Sorry I'm going a bit off piste but I feel very scared. My husband has had trouble with his mobility and memory for a couple of years and yesterday got a diagnosis of Normal postural Hydrocephalus. He has been advised to have a lumber puncture to drain some fluid to see if it temporarily improves with a view to having a shunt . We are understandably very nervous but the alternative is an awful prospect. Incontinence and a wheelchair. How would I be able to look after him with pmr. ?

Nervous
Oh Sue.....
First, Big Breath Time......
One step at a time, the LP may make a big difference & then the shunt will make things much better for him.
It’s all just so daunting but at the moment as your looking at all the possibilities which is absolutely normal but then it scrambles our head & we can’t think rationally.
If the worst comes to the worst then a Care Package will have to be put in place because as you say you wouldn’t be able to manage. But get the first step over & see if the LP improves things for him & go from there....
It may well help with his mobility & memory too 🙏🏼💙🙏🏼
Thinking of you & sending much love.

I'm so sorry. As MrsN says, take a step back and BREATHE. Cross the bridge when you get to it. I know it is easy to say - but take one step at a time now.
If it is needed, there will be a care package to deal with the heavy stuff because even a trained and healthy nurse couldn't do it alone. My best friend in Germany is a step ahead of you - her husband had a dizzy spell and fell down the stairs, breaking his neck. He is getting some function back in his arms but they don't yet know how much improvement there will be - but a wheelchair is a certainty. They must make plans - but there is help.
Big virtual hugs.
Take it one step at A time, have LP , see what response he has , then reassess, if necessary A care pact can be put in place , much love and virtual hugs to you both x
Oh Sue! I am sorry to hear that you two are facing this. Of course you are nervous. It’s not really a choice is it?Sending you loving wishes for a safe, successful procedure and a happy future. Xxx
I am so sorry to hear you are facing this. Let us hope things improve with the lumbar puncture and shunt. If things do get to the worst situation, and hopefully they won’t, do get a care package to help. My thoughts are with you at this worrying time. Look after yourself
Thank you all so much for your kind words. I’ve calmed down a bit now. Much love. X
A bit late to all this but sorry Sue that you and hubby are facing such difficult decisions and trials. As everyone has said take one step at a time and we are here for support and virtual hugs. Let us know how you get on. 💐x
