Balance &/or strength issues

Morning all. I was reading a thread earlier about balance and strength issues. I’m sure loads of us have been affected with one or other of these, even if we are still fairly active. Not to mention dreaded osteoporosis! Late last year the Women’s Institute began putting some of their courses on-line and I decided I would give Tai Chi a go and found it really helpful in all sorts of ways, physically and mentally. At £5.00 a class it was very good value and very gentle. They are currently offering Qigong and also gentle yoga. They are available at denman .org.uk and non-members can access the courses too for just a little more money. They also have a host of other interesting talks and demonstrations to take your mind off current issues.

I know not everyone has access to technology, but if you do, YouTube has some great yoga and Pilates sessions and many are free. “The lady with a mat” does fab 30 minute gentle Pilates sessions for over 60’s and some are interactive as are the WI ones so you can ask questions. They are all very sensitive to those of us who are living with medical conditions or just showing signs of advancing years. I feel so much better having tried them and it gives me something to look forward to each week. Hope this helps 😊

That’s really helpful thank you- I’m walking but not really exercising the rest of my body x

Hi. Yes, I was walking too, but like you found the rest of me was going to pot and my spine was getting very stiff. Having to learn sequences of movements with the Tai chi got my brain cells moving too - sometimes with hilarious consequences when I couldn’t remember which leg I was supposed to be standing on, or which way I should be facing! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just discovered the Lady with the Mat yesterday! Was relieved to find something I could do standing up. I struggle like a beached whale getting up and down from the floor 🐳
