Groin pain

Some advice if anyone has suffered with groin pain, this is a new on, I upped my Preds to 8 at night 1 morning, and did feel better with the pain, fatigue as always plagues me, but my new moan is

I have developed a lot of pain around the top of my hips and groin, more to the front area and then running down the back of the legs and into my knees. To be honest I have been up and down ladders a lot this week and this might be self inflicted! I know but you have to work, there is no choice in the matter,

Laying here now at 4am the bones in my backside are so sore even my feet hurt. This so frustrating

Is this PMR or over work from a silly old man?

Enough about my moaning how are you all? Look on the bright side of life. Have a good day all

It does sound like muscles protesting but pain deep in the groin can be due to bursitis, especially iliopsoas bursitis. I also get trochanteric bursitis but that can be felt on the outer aspect of the thigh rather than down the hamstrings which is what you seem to be saying.

Is it the bones in your bum or the buttock muscles? Piriformis muscle problems are common in PMR and myofascial pain syndrome and that can irritate the sciatic nerve (it passes through the muscle group so if it is tight it pinches the nerve) and that will cause referred pain down into the legs similar to what you describe.

Certainly the front of legs sound like muscular - that where I find mine ache most if overdone stairs/steps. Give yourself some TLC over the weekend as see if that eases it.

As PMRpro says, the rest could be PMR related . So as you suggest - a bit of both maybe.

And..we would never call you a silly old man....🤦🏻‍♀️

Groin pain was one of my earliest most disabling symptoms with PMR. It severely reduced my mobility and ability to get out of bed or out of chairs even. I do sympathise, it was agony. The only thing that helped was Prednisalone and it was the first symptom to be relieved at my start dose of 20 mgs. It has never returned. I have however, found it easier than you to rest and pace activities, in fact to a fault. I now have the problem of re- building muscle strength and physical stamina. It sounds like you have overdone it and I have underdone it. There must be a happy medium.

PMRPro has suggested clinical reasons. You ask if it is “PMR or overwork from a silly old man”. I would suggest it is both but less of the silly old man and more of someone desperate to keep going as they always have. I am going be a nag bag here. If you keep having to put up your Pred dose to keep going today, you are making it more likely that your musculoskeletal bits will develop problems tomorrow. Doing a physical job in this state is more likely to result from injury from strain or accident. Bodies decide they can’t work like a packhorse forever whether due to ageing or illness and you can’t push back the tide indefinitely. I guess the question to you is, have you planned for the day you can’t do this? It’s better to be in control of this by making choices than battling on ending up in a broken heap with few choices. At the very least you need to give your body a chance to heal, so that you might be able to go back to work rather than being stopped for ever and not at a time of your choosing.

In my very early days I would have the same pain maybe 1 or twice a month in the area. But it would go away when I got up and stretch. (Always a 2 3 am ) but it only lasted the 1st year. A very hot bath would also work. !! Good luck
