Oh, Lucky Us!

In a reversal of policy by the State of New York this morning, hubby and I became eligible today, being over 65.

Our friend, Chief of Administration at the Medical Center down the road, called at 4:17PM and said "Come get your shots! We have vaccines, personnel, and few people in line!" We jumped in the car, drove to the hospital, filled out the paperwork, got our shots, were observed for reactions for about 20 minutes, and were home by 6PM.

Second shot already scheduled for 4-4:30 on 2/2/2021.

So grateful!

We both signed up to volunteer for the vaccination team beginning 2/26/2021, the first day we'll be fully protected. As we both work from home, we can surely help out nights and weekends to blast this scourge out of our community. We're not medical people, but we sure know crowd control and paperwork, so we can be useful.

Hope you all are able to get in the queue really soon...

UPDATE:

As of noon the day following the jab, no side effects. Not even a sore arm.

I was diagnosed with PMR in February 2016, and have reduced slowly to a current level of 7mg, where I am comfortable and functional. My rheumy advised to get vaccinated as soon as I was eligible.

We don't want to get in the way of the professionals, but if we can be useful in some way, we'd be really happy about it.

How are you doing?

Can’t Sleep! I’m scheduled to get my Vaccine before the middle of February so just staying home until then.

Had a Telephone Consultation today so will write a Post on it in the morning but they are changing me over to Injectable Methotrexate as it’s possible l’m not absorbing the full dose & l’m to stop trying to reduce the Pred until l feel better......

Keep Safe & Well

We'll still be taking precautions for some time to come, as no one knows yet whether we can spread the virus without becoming sick ourselves, once we pass through the 2nd shot and waiting period.

Keep on keepin' on, girl. The young'uns need us to keep them in line!

Just read your post about injecting methotrexate. Two weeks ago my rheumatologist started me on injections of methotrexate and it is absolutely amazing how much better my dose works. I have had such a great relief that I am thrilled. Good luck with this and I will follow your progress!

That's fab news and Brill that you are now able to help as well.

Well, in a few weeks we'll be able to help...there are a lot of others who have been giving their all for nearly a year now. If we have skills they can use, we'll be glad for the chance.

With most of us having to stay away from contact as much as, possible, it must feel really good to be able to be even thinking about getting into the real world and help others

I have to admit that seeing my friends and neighbors as they come in for their shots will be great, but as said elsewhere, we'll still need to mask up and keep our distance, since no one knows yet whether the vaccinated could be virus carriers, even though not sick themselves.

We'll all have to do the same for some time to come, but being able to see people with a bit less fear will certainly be great.

We've been doing what we can from home - organizing mask making supplies and fabrication and distribution when there were no masks to be found, organizing food and meals for health care workers to take home at the end of their shifts, meal delivery to families of sick and recovering victims, finding PPE for health care workers and family members of victims...

There's so much to still be done, especially in supporting those whose livelihoods have been disrupted.

But first...vaccinations!

You've been doing a fab job and let's keep fingers crossed for the vaccinations.

Thanks, but it's not just me and The Professor. It's the work of a group of people with skills and talents, just looking for a way to use them to survive this disaster, keep our community safe, and bring it back when it's all over.

It's so reassuring to see clear evidence of the vaccination being rolled out everywhere. I suspect I'm still going to be waiting some time for mine though.

Excellent! There was an interview on Sky News this morning with a London UK GP - and he was saying he had a load of patients from the practice out directing people where to go saving the professionals having tothink about it. We had a mass testing back in the village before xmas - the vast majority done by the volunteer Fire Brigade and other volunteer groups in the village. They will probably use a similar approach when they are able to offer mass jabs - supply is slow but apparently the take up has been abit slow, which I find mind-boggling since it is only being offered to medical and care home staff. In general, some doctors say no, nurses are keen and care home staff the most reluctant which I think is strange - if they offered me one I'd be there as fast as I could get!

I wish here in the states they'd require vaccinations of medical and care staff unless contraindicated by a verifiable medical condition. It's quite obvious that once the initial outbreaks in care homes here were overcome by strict quarantine, that the only remaining vector had to be staff.

Rang me Monday to go yesterday. All very organised, with no waiting. It was in the community hall at the bottom of my street. 🤗
