Breathing a sigh of relief. As you can see from his post he is much improved - finally the drugs are working. Can I just thank everyone who replied to my post - just knowing that there were such kind and thoughtful people out there, who understand, was a great comfort to me over the last horrendous 48 hours. You are all brilliant Hopefully he will be home soon.

Just you get some rest in the meantime - been there, done that, with a poorly OH! Make the most of the respite ...

He’s lucky to have you! Has the ocular shingles diagnosis been confirmed?I have had a very persistent eye infection and that was the diagnosis mooted. Nothing like that pain though. I hope he’s home soon!

Yes definitely ocular shingles with possible trigeminal neuralgia. He is on iv anti virals now and a variety of other drugs. It’s difficult to find out exactly what he is on as it’s the weekend and hard to speak to a doctor but he seems so much better today, the pain is more controlled. He has developed the classic shingles rash on one side of his head, running down his nose with the horrible blisters. But appears to be on the mend slowly.

I hope you manage to get your eye infection sorted soon.

Thank you! My heart goes out to you both!

I found this in the letter from the eye consultant which explains how they diagnosed the shingles - I don’t understand all the terms they use but may be helpful to you

Management Comments

Patient reports pain on scalp and goes down face under right eye.

On examination no cells seen in the anterior chamber, IOP satisfactory, marginal keratitis seen on cornea but this would not cause amount of pain that patient had. Possibly could be shingles.

Don’t know if this is of any help for your issue.

It is so good to hear he is getting a little better now that the drugs are beginning to work. It is kind of you to let us know how he is too. You must both be exhausted. As others have said, do try and get lots of rest yourself. Very best wishes to you both and hope he is able to come home soon when he is heaps better.
