Shingles and PMR

Does anyone know if susceptibility to shingles is increased by having PMR? I've just had a shingles bout and have PMR.

Doubt there are any figures. However - having the live shingles vaccine, Zostavax, is associated with the adverse effect of developing PMR - so why not? More to the point though - both are likely to be due to a deranged immune system.

I have PMR And GCA and have just had my 6th bout of shingles in 3 years, 3 times in 2020.

I've had shingles twice in 4 years I've been on prednisolone. Never had it for the 50 years before that

Younger people do develop shingles - but the likelihood does increase with age ...

Interestly, I too wondered this and just did a search last night for a possible GCA and herpes zoster link and found several papers that there could be. I would recommend you search for yourself to confirm. I too have had a bout of Shingles over 10 year ago and again about 3 months ago after the passing of my Mom during the Corona Virus. I stressful time indeed. From my search, I believe there maybe a link between the two.

I was diagnosed with PMR end of October and developed Shingles within a week. I had Shingles jab 2 years ago when I turned 70 so bout was mild, sore rather really painful. Cleared up just using Aciclovir cream. Returned a month later but again cleared with use of same cream. Am I to expect recurrent doses of Shingles with PMR?
