I hope you are all ok and feeling more positive now there is light at the end of the tunnel, and looking to be a better year following this one!!!
I saw the Rheumatologist today and he confirmed a diagnosis of PMR. Advised to reduce prednisalone by 1mg every month, starting tomorrow (currently on 11mg). Has recommended to start Alendronic Acid, of which I am reluctant but will do as I am told as he has put the wind up me re osteoporosis. Alongside calcium and Vit D.
Any flares, he has advised to increase to the previous dose for one week and reduce again.
All in all, it was really positive and I am fortunate that I haven’t had the same challenges for a formal diagnosis as others have had with an “atypical” presentation. He said there is no doubt it is PMR.
I have been very lucky with a good GP practice too. Keep safe all, Claire 😊
Hi CF,Is the Alendronic Acid based on a recent dexa scan?
Happy for you that you like your docs, that is a big step toward recovery.
Hi there, I believe so to a certain extent as showed mild osteopenia for neck of femur, although the rheumatologist was adamant that it would be protective until I get down to 5mg pred and then can stop AA.
I've had PMR for 18mths and following a Dexa scan, clearly required biphosphonates. I've been on Alendronic acid for 15mths and been lucky to have not experienced any side effects....but its really important you take it as directed!! You're very fortunate to have a specialist and GP practice that's supportive and helpful. Good luck with your 'journey'.
Dont know why my rheumatologist put me on AA, as my Dexa scan was ok. However, when I saw him last month he said to stop it which I was pleased about, as I was told I should not eat grapefruit and that is my favourite breakfast, also Pink Grapefruit gin is nice as well! Didnt have any reactions from the AA.
