For no apparent reason sudden onset of deep severe ache in both knees, worse when not moving, keeping me awake at night. My blood test was up to 10 which is unusual for me (erp..). It feels different from my PMR pain??, no history of injury..any idea??? Thanks for thinking with me. It feels like very inflamed knees. I had it two weeks ago, and it went away, now back again??? Could it be rheumatoid arthritis, nihil other joint apart from very osteoarthritis neck, which is on and off sore...

Sounds more like osteoarthritis to me. I have it in both knees. OA can spring up all over the body (I have it in eight places - known as polyarthritis). Warmth helps so do pain killers (I take cocodamol). I didn't find any of the gels helpful.
Be very careful when exercising - stretches, short walks, swimming (if you can), rest when it hurts most.
My Osteoarthritis definitely got worse during my PMR time and I got sharp pains in my knees and occasionally ankle, coming down stairs mainly. It must have been masked by Pred. I also have cervical spondylosis. I am on 9 mg Pred ( higher now due to GCA) and it has eased off. Walking on the flat and having my feet up helped + painkillers.
Thank you all for “ thinking with me”., that is very supportive. I have been taking some NSAI drug which have helped the symptoms considerably. That is all I am after and all I can expect at 68 years of age in my opinion.
Thanks so much. The severe miraculously settled with one dose of 100mg brufen, I wish we could settle our PMR so quickly!! No I am not interested to have a X-ray, OA to be expected at 68 yrs of age!
