Rheumatology recommendations.

Thanks everyone for your advice and support today regarding my mum and her polymyalgia.

I think it’s well worth us going privately to see a rheumatologist. We live in Kent, under the borough of Tonbridge and Malling. We are willing to travel around a 30 mile radius. If anyone can recommend a good doctor we will be very grateful .

Thank you!

I also live in Kent, near Cranbrook. The local rheumatologists have been pretty poor on the PMR front in my opinion. I go to Dr. Rod Hughes in Chertsey. His NHS Hospital is St. Peter’s and his private hospital is The Runnymeade. He is well worth a visit Privately, but you will also still need a GP for your mother’s prescriptions and ongoing blood tests.

I really hope that you get some proper answers from an expert!

Thank you very much.

You’ll have the blood results in a day or two & as Suzy says Dr Rod Hughes would be good.

I think from the state of Waiting Lists at the moment you’d greatly benefit from going Privately.

Yes Bellakent. I went to see Dr Hughes initially privately and then I was able to transfer to his NHS list. He is very good. X💐

Thank you, we will go with seeing him. Mum was to have bloods done today at GP surgery and xrays later at the hospital. The surgery has emailed to cancel the blood test which they often do. Utterly useless!

How frustrating!! What reasons do they give? Are they rearranged. I would note these incidents down to complain to Practice Manager if it doesn’t improve .

Our plan is to go anyway to the practice and ask for a form, so she can have bloods taken at the hospital instead. They never give a reason. She stopped the steroids abruptly in February and hasn’t had any follow up since. She had a phone consultation but spoke about her back instead. It’s very frustrating, I feel she’s been very let down by her GP.
