0.02 is probably within the range of error for the estimation - I wouldn't worry for now. Get it checked again and make sure you are well hydrated before the blood sample is taken.

Hi you were spot on re my calcium !Rheumatologist not worried at all with hot weather- although we beg to differ he thinks I have seronegative arthritis not PMR because he says my pain is not bilateral ( it is but worse on one side at any time ) and that my pain changes ie sometimes worse in back or neck or shoulders - guess the treatment is the same 2/3 rheumies thought I had PMR- not sure what to do now!!

I wonder why they are so hung up on bilateral pain. If I let mine flare it is bilateral and evenly so eventually but it always starts worse on one side than the other. And it changes - but that is also partly because I also have myofascial pain syndrome which mixes up with the PMR. I know which is which but a rheumy might not.

Well done with the Hba1c reduction in blood sugar. Any tips?

You can have too much vitD, you could get tested in case. A dairy rich diet will help with your calcium, the tablets can be problematic. So if you tolerate dairy, perhaps that is a good thing. I do the same. Don’t know anything much about the meaning of hypercalcaemia. I think I’m about to be educated.

Hi my tips for reducing blood sugar- I have spelt cereal, pasta, brown rice and quinoa.I eat lots of salads and ryvitas instead of 🥖.I have lentil cakes for crackers with peanut butter and fruit for snacks (Apples and strawberries) and have 1 treat a day ie small pot of ice cream - I make a smoothie hot choc by whizzing 1/2 banana with almond milk barista in the pink carton and pukka choc - it makes a really filling hot choc!!Evening meal have a smaller portion of rice or pasta than I would have normally - am v active at least 15,000 steps a day!hope that helps are your blood sugars high?

Wonderful tips thank you. Yes I have just been diagnosed with steroid induced diabetes. Initially the treatment will be “ lifestyle changes”.

I dropped my hba1c to 35 after going low carb high fat. I do have a treat now and again but I am lucky enough to have a blood testing kit and by testing before a meal and 2 hours after I have discovered I can eat a couple of new potatoes without increasing my sugars too much. Unfortunately it is different with chocolate!

Don't knock metformin, if you are offered it. As well as helping with the blood sugar, it is apparently the miracle anti aging drug that non diabetics (not in the uk) are clamouring for. I too was diagnosed with steroid induced diabetes nearly 3 years ago and have been keeping blood sugar well controlled by 1 metformin and carb control. Unfortunately a recent prescription of pregabalin has send my sugars haywire and even increasing to 2 metformin daily is not doing the trick. Back to the drawing board .......

Please don't assume that as your calcium is 'near normal' it shouldn't be investigated further. My raised calcium is due to primary hyperparathyroidism, which can cause diabetes, amongst other things. You could ask your GP for a blood test for calcium, parathyroid hormone (PTH) and vitamin D in the same draw as the relationship between these is important.
