Hi - I remember taht there was a post about research around bicarb possibly being helpfulf for PMR - I think for auto-immune diseases as well. Does anyone remember the dose that was suggested, also how / when to take it.
Bi-carb can lower potassium - does anyone take extra potassium - I dont get high enough potassium foods at present due to the minimal Histamine Intolerance diet.
Thanks.

Potassium supplements shouldn't be taken unless you have had blood tests and the doctor says you need them - high potassium is almost worse than low potassium.
As for bicarb - I think the work you are talking about might have been this?
There are lot of similar gushing articles in the media.
But that isn't saying it will work - it is saying that this is possibly involved - and a lot more work is required. It would be potentially risky to take too much bicarb - it increases the sodium in your diet. And PMR is a vasculitis - not an arthritis.
The science is in its infancy and lots more work is required.
Not in this case - rheumatoid arthritis got a mention. It was obviously a press release - and rather OTT about the potential which some writers then presented as certainty. I know the first time this came up I found an analysis article about the realistic but can't remember where and can't find it again. But it came to the same conclusion as Bee: "Don't try this at home yet ..."
I have just read the article , as Pro puts it , it's got a long way to go before you would consider it. And it may not even work for everything or everyone . It's a " Don't try this yet at home " moment.
