The shingles are still blossoming...blistering and dripping...I'm really not feeling too well..more pain than I'd ever realized. I just got the lidocaine mouthwash today...the shingles are in my mouth and fill my right nostril. My biggest concern is my right eye. There are blisters all around and it is quite swollen...no lesions on the eye itself. I'm on anti-viral, some pain meds and am grateful for the mouthwash. Every 'wake-up' brings a surprise...Dr. check tomorrow afternoon..just time I guess. Pretty unpredictable and individual...so one step at a time. Feeling pretty lazy....thanks for all your thoughts...πŸ’—

Oh! That sounds really grim. No wonder you’re feeling tired. Go with your body and take it very very easy and let your body heal. Shingles is a horrible thing. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. ❀️ xxx

Grammy, do you get calamine lotion there ? I have found it helpful for soothing and itching (as they develop). It can be messy but I can remember it helping when I had chicken pox as a kid and the 2 bouts of shingles I have had as an adult. I don't envy you, they say the face is very painful. Good luck and keep Us posted.

There seems to be conflicting opinions as to whether you should put anything other than a cold cloth on the blisters are scabs until such time as his scabs fall off?? Those are some of the things I want to get straight to the doctor today plus I want to save my auntie at all costs naturally and getting something for this nerve pain. I had been given some Vicodin Tylenol combination butt not only did not touch it but it upset my stomach. It sounds like Gabapentin is the best bet , will see what word is.... so many good tips from all of you for me to take to the doctor

I’ve only had it mildly and that was quite enough. Hang in there. Have you got Amitriptyline?

Lots of sympathy to you. I had it last summer in similar places, but also my ear instead of my nose! I was fortunate to get the antiviral meds within 48 hours of the first signs and I'm sure that was key to my recovering quite well.

You're not lazy - you have a viral attack! Take care. xx

You might not have time to read it all before you see your GP. Please try to get an emergency appointment. I have picked out the two things that you really need to address. I only know about the eye involvement as a friend ended up overnight in hospital and then back and forwards for months. Luckily she did not lose vision.

1) Involvement of the eyes during a shingles outbreak can be particularly serious, since scarring of the cornea and permanent vision loss can result.

2) Oral medications that can help with pain control in people with shingles include tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline and certain antiseizure medications such as gabapentin (Neurontin).

Can I add that anyone with PMR, GCA or any other auto-immune illness should try and read this as most of us have had chicken-pox or perhaps come into contact with Chicken-pox, if the latter, off to GP for the 'stopper' which if taken with the first 24 hours can and does, either stop it in its tracks or lessen the length.

I had shingles, knew nothing the first time. Then when GCA came along my GP told me to watch out for rash, pain around with no reason etc.. Yes, a Grandmother, another friend, came and told me her grand daughter had chicken pox and she had just come from looking after her. Sure enough, a rash - off to GP, took the stuff, bingo it went in two days.

I intend to mention Gabapentin to him today and I'm concerned about my vision as well.... all such good advice❀

That sounds horrendous. I had shingles a few years ago but luckily it was on my tummy only. I do hope the antivirals help and you start to feel better very soon xxx

Did you say you had been to an Opthamologist to check if there was any involvement with your eye.

It is the area to keep the closest check on in case it causes other issues.

Do you have Nerve Pain Medication for existing health issues ?

If the Pain is very bad it would be worth discussing wether you can have a prescription of Medication specifically for Nerve Pain when you see the GP , as Nerve Pain is the symptom which lasts the longest with Shingles and can last beyond the blisters themselves for a number of months.

My Uncle found putting dry cloths in bags in a box in the fridge and using them on his face and neck was cooling and soothing . He also used a cooling eye mask to reduce the nerve pain in his face .

Have you got anybody coming in to help you with jobs and meals at Home ?

I hope things start improving soon and that you can manage to get some rest and distraction , take care xxx

Had my eyes checked yesterday and there are no lesions on the eyes at this time. I have new blisters coming around the eye on the lids, mostly lower and in the corner of my eye so I want some instruction on precisely how to handle that. The cold clubs in the refrigerator sounds like a wonderful idea I have been putting moist cold cloths on. Some friends talked in and out yesterday with soup but I have been thinking about making specific Arrangements..... I'll see how it goes to doctor today. Thanks so much

Nothing to add except to tell you that I wish for a quick recovery from this miserable time. So difficult to deal with and the anxiety doesn't help your overall health. Take care, nap a lot and let's hope your doctor has some truly helpful ideas.
