Pain in hip

Yesterday I sneezed and it felt as if my right hip came out of its socket. I think it went back but today l have so much pain in that hip.

Should I rest or keep going?I’m about to have a bath and hope it will help. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I think you should get some medical advice - if it really did come out of its socket the pain would have been excruciating and would have justified a 999 call.

Thank you . I hobbled down the road because of the dog, ,am waiting for the GP to ring me back lot of pain, yes think I need an X-ray. Think I’ll have Paracetamol and cup of tea and see if it helps

Good luck with this. I would really keep still until you know what you’ve done. Have you people around to help?

My OH put is back out with a violent sneeze. My sneezes are quite dramatic these days, since PMR.

Hello Sheffield Jane and PMRPro

The GP rang. Said I would have had to fall off a horse or higher to put the hip out of its socket, not just sneeze. Best thing is to keep mobile.

So I’ll go to Sainsbury’s and hope for the best.

Thanks for help

Glad he's not a paramedic!! You see dislocated hips in older patients for far less than that!

My hip does not dislocate fully but partially ( subluxates ) quite often , my friends does the same ( she can even have a full dislocation and then pop it in herself even at the hip ) because of our types of conditions they pop in again with a bit of jiggling and the pain is excruciating as it's happening but becomes hot and tingling afterwards. That Doctor is talking out of their arse!!! I know , that's really strong language for me !

It needs checking because the damage to the ligaments , nerve or muscles don't always show up in symptoms for upto 48 hours after , but then you've done more damage and it takes longer to recover from. An x-ray of the right examination touching specific points can show if you have torn a particular muscle or set of ligaments and help you target your Care so you don't cause more damage.

That Doctor just realised they can't do anything about that it needs an x-ray and that it's costly preventative care , some Dictors just prefer to have you suffer unless you have something easy to fix , like a break or full fracture.

Some doctors do talk gibberish, I know someone who managed to dislocate his hip by pulling the lavatory chain. If your doctor went onto a hip forum he would discover that he is incorrect in his assumptions. In fact my dog had hip dysplacia and his hip dislocated occasionally.

Heck - now THAT strikes me as gifted!

Mind you - to be fair to the doctor, if you have dislocated a hip, you would know about it and you wouldn't be taking the dog out the door never mind for a walk.

There was one person on the hip forum who dislocated their hip and said it was not that bad which surprised me, must have had a high pain threshold.

The dog was an expensive retriever and the supplier would have taken him back and replaced him, but they would have put him down, so by that time we decided to keep him! Being softies.

Jane if it doesn’t feel right, get yourself off to A&E as at least they’ll X-ray it for you & get someone to have a look at it.

I always think that’s the best way with sprains/?broken bones etc.

Good Luck & let us know how you get on.

I agree with Mrs Nails. Your GP is too dismissive!

Get it checked asap , as a Ehlers Danlos sufferer I have subluxations and dislocations all the time . I used to leave it and muddle on but it's actually necessary to ruled out that you did not damage sooner rather than later , especially if you have extra pain or some swelling of heat in the joint.

You could have pulled muscles , ligaments , scraped the bone , inflamed the cartilage or even have a stress fractures. All can becoming but have slightly different techniques for Care . You want the right advice so it gets better quicker , you may need Paracetamol on top of your Steroids , and if pain does not improve but worsens you may need a Stress dose of Pred to get PMR in to control and to prevent a full Flare .

It's also good to get these things on your records no matter how minor to prove it happened and when if a pattern starts emerging. Doctors are mistrusting beasts whom don't believe anything you tell them unless they can see it themselves or have evidence in black and white.

You have to have them checked no matter how normal you feel after it so a trip to the A and E or out of hours to have it checked and have an x-ray no matter how minor it may be with a joint that pops out.

Not what you're looking for?
