Do you have arthritis at all? I have Cervical Spondylosis and get pain radiating from my neck to the back of my skull. Physiotherapy can help. See what the doctor says. I am at your sort of Pred level and all sorts of arthritic pain is being revealed.
It is worth mentioning to the Rheumy as they could give you some advice and should examine your neck and head at the appointment , but , it is likely to be Neuralgia Pain brought on by the added tension and stiffness you have in your shoulders and body from the PMR radiating upwards if it does respond to standard pain killers.
Do get the Rheumy to check it though and note it on your records , then if it continues they will see there is a pattern that may need further investigation.
One of my PMR symptoms pre diagnosis was neck pain at the back just left of centre, which travelled up to the base of the skull. I thought I must have been sleeping in the wrong position and started doing neck exercises to no avail. The pain disappeared with prednisone.
I’m always bleating on about this but it really can mimic the symptoms of GCA but usually can be diagnosed and treated yourself if mild - Sternocleidomastoid pain. I became susceptible to it, especially when my Pred was above 5mg, though other factors may have been at play.
