Flu shot for seniors

Hello all,

I’m about to get my flu shot and am wondering if the vaccine for seniors is stronger and would cause any more side effects or reactions?

I’m 76,PMR/GCA, currently on 11 mg tapering to 10.

Thank you. I’ll get on my laptop instead of my phone where I can see this.

I just spent some time looking up UK vaccines and discover you are actually in the US! All countries are different and have variations in what they are offering their population. It may even vary from state to state. Looks like there is quite a choice in the US. What are you being offered?

Had the vaccination - very grateful for it (especially as I have now picked up a fluish bug which I suspect would have been much worse without it 😀 - but who knows?) and no side effects at all.

There is a different type available in the USA but I can't say what difference is. I got my flu shot a week ago and I got the "standard" variety. The druggist said I was age 64 and 11 months but if I'd been 65 he could have given me the "senior" version, whatever that it. I originally when to the clinic for it, but they had run out! I got directed to the pharmacy for it. About a month ago our small town grocery store was doing flu shots for one day!

As far as I can tell it looks like the "senior" version is stronger in the sense it contains more of the substance which promotes the immune response, more of the killed virus I guess. Like strong tea instead of weak tea. The ones I looked at for Canada and the US did not contain an adjuvant where another substance is added to stimulate the immune system (like adding sugar to that cup of tea), and some think an adjuvant is what causes so many adverse reactions. I am only guessing at this but it makes sense to me.

Thanks for deciphering this Heron, I appreciate it.

Well, it could be like when I thought there was a Spanish sentence written on the door of an Italian restaurant because I was able to decipher it with my very limited knowledge of Spanish, but, now that I know more, it really is Italian - but the meaning is what I originally figured out!
