Hi just to say dry eyes can be result of PMR I think - I have heat gel pack eye, eye wash and drops from kindly optician. Not taking omega 3 tabs as already on too many tabs but it is recommended.

Hi daffodilia, which post are you responding to or are you posting yourself about dry eyes? YBB

I wouldn't go so far as to say it is PMR that causes it - but it is an aspect of autoimmune disease that can accompany PMR.

As Pro says , PMR may only increase Dry Eye as a part of the autoinflammatory/ autoimmunity body response that can be a part of your condition or you get dry eyes as a part of taking medication and a side effect of how both things cause dehydration , reduced nutrients and sensitivity in the body.

Taking Vitamin D as is recommended is important but also taking a full vitamin / mineral supplement and Omega 3 and increasing fluids reduce these symptoms and improve Eye Health.

Remember , things like Omega 3 are dietary supplements giving you a boost of nutrients that you may not be getting enough of from your diet alone , taking something like Omega 3 shouldn't be ranked in the category of prescription medications or herbal remedies .

I have dry eyes!!! Never before. thought it was just aging..but early on aging as I am 73 and husband is 81 and he JUST started getting dry eyes. what a weird and annoying thing. One eye mainly. The eye doc checked and that has higher pressure too which she must watch.. I suspect it is all from PMR or prednisone or whatever. Thank goodness for those drops. On to beat the next thing!

I was prescribed hypromellose eye drops about ten years ago following my first cataract operation and have been using them ever since. Now new opthamologist says that used long term that can damage the eye. Does anyone have experience of this?

My optician says use more up to date ones - I used hypromellose for 20 years on and off - dont know of any damage just too watery to do the job now. I am using heated eye pack and eye wash too now and can already feel the difference particularly overnight

What is the eye wash? Do you get it over the counter? Thanks.

It is Optase - eye lid cleansing gel with tea tree. I got it from optician. I have seen similar in Home Bargains - probably cheaper but is it as good?

I was dx with severe dry eye nearly a yr before GCA reared its head. Was in the midst of biopsy for Sjogrens when the headaches started. For sure omega 3 and flaxseed oil supplements help. I strongly urge you to try everything, as this is NOT fun, and tends to worsen. I use eyelid scrubs, heat pacs, restasis (perscription) and definitely stay away from any eyedrop with preservatives. None of this is a cure, but can help comfort levels. Sunglasses when outside, restrict computer time etc...
