Neurology update

Good morning all.

Yesterday I saw a very nice neurologist who gave me a full neurological exam (including sticking pins into me) .

His conclusion was that

a) I'm not a witch, and,

b) I have no discernable neurological problems.

He was somewhat surprised to hear that the rheum had diagnosed fibromyalgia.

He said I have polyarthralgia (which is really just a description of my symptoms, not the cause of them)

His advice was to seek a second rheumatology opinion.

Meanwhile, the polyarthralgia rages on.

Hi Linda - glad you've got a correct diagnosis at last.

To our "brains" on here:

Does anyone know the difference between polyarthralgia and seronegative negative polyarthritis? They both seem to have exactly the same symptoms to me!!

See my reply below

Bascially, polyarthralgia is non-inflammatory, polyarthritis is inflammatory.

Thanks PMRpro! I just missed something somewhere.

I was diagnosed with Sero neg poly arthritis, but difficult to know whether it is inflammatory or not with PMR as well. Not sure now!

Having read those two articles it seems I HAVE S-n-Polyarthritis. I've had it for years (it's in multiple joints).

Thanks once again. 🍾🍸🍀🍀

Sorry Linda! I meant to reply to you and THEN ask the experts!! Brain fog (NOT old age, I'm only 80)!!!!😂😂

What symptoms have you? Are you in pain every day? Do you take tablets to relieve the pain? etc etc

💐💐

Constance, I'm told that 80 is the new 70 so no worries 😄

My main concern is constant aching in my muscles, feels like I'm coming down with flu.

I'm very very stiff when ive been sitting for any length of time and when I lie down I have the most excruciating pain down my left leg. It sometimes wakes me up.

Consequently am very tired all the time

OTC painkillers have had no effect. These symptoms only appeared when I stopped prednisolone very rapidly

Thanks for the flowers!.😉

Are your symptoms related to JOINTS in particular or more muscular?

Pro, they are more muscular. The joints feel tender when pressed but the pain is much more like a post gym workout (or as I imagine that feels like! 😉 )

No matter how many times I tell the doctors this, they seem by to grasp what I'm saying. Very frustrating

Definitely time for a more clued up rheumy. And if it is mainly muscles - not polyarthralgia, much more likely to be polymyalgia. But then the question is - what is causing it? Is it "ours" or something else.

I agree that it doesn't sound like polyarthralgia.

Yesterday's doc ruled out fibromyalgia. Apparently he could tell by the way I was walking. 🙈

I'd welcome any recommendations re a clued up rheum. I live in Macclesfield in Cheshire, and the chap that I saw first is in Stockport.

Put a new post up and ask - people won't see it here.

He could tell by the way you were walking?? That's a new one on me!

Me too! He said my painful shuffle/stagger was a clear indication that I didn't have fibromyalgia.

Oh well - that's one worry less! Fybromyalgia is a rotten disease. Hope you find out soon what you REALLY have. 🍀🍀

Quite a few experts recognise a PMR-walk. Good doctors and other healthcare professionals go to the door and call the patient and watch them - very valuable information.

I had that at my rheumie's, but it was because of the arthritis. I don't think I waddled with the PMR (well perhaps the first few months)!

I'm afraid I waddle quite a bit, but that's down to an excess of cake!

I'm not keen on cake and sweet things - nuts and crisps for me - but I'm not overweight so I don't worry.

I am glad it felt like a positive experience. He sounds wise and no ducking stool! So you can carry on with your spells. 🧙🏻‍♀️
