feeling a bit of tenderness in back

i do have 4 stress fractures since starting prednisone in Oct. 2018, but other than the initial pain in one leg from the sacral fractures, it hasn't been noticeable. I am now down to 15 mg. daily along with the Leflunomine and have been crusing along, now all of a sudden my back is flaring up--not unbearable, just annoying and a bit concerning. IS this because the higher doses were masking the stress fracture pain and now this is reality? I hope not??

Hi composition, I don't have fractures (hopefully) but have had serious back and neck problems from OA for years post surgery and now thoracic issues. The pred has never really helped back issues and I rely on painkillers to help manage that pain. Perhaps more focussed pain relief would help?🌻

I guess you are right. I would be seeking an x-ray or scan in case things have deteriorated.

I'd be surprised if the pred masked fractures but it can mask muscle spasm problems at higher doses. Have you used a back brace for the fractures at any point? That can lead to back muscles deteriorating.

I have 4 fractures and have muscle related pain. I find that as I reduce prednisolone my back spasms get worse. I take tramadol, pregabalin, paracetamol and have a lidocaine patch. Currently at 8.75 mgs. I can't take NSAIDs anyway apart from them not mixing with the prednisolone. I just have to pace myself and try to do a little bit more each day.

It is a facer isn't it? The drug that gave me the fractures also helps reduce the pain of them!!!

thanks! I am determined to get through this slow reduction and off the prednisone. I've been reading more and more studies about leflunomide and how it IS effective when all else fails, as in my case. Now my BP is elevated but Dr. said too bad, treat the high BP because you have to stay the course on Leflumonide and not risk more steroid induced fractures. I am good with that.

I don't think that is entirely true - I know people who have tried it and it did nothing useful.
